ATM 2025: Barbados Records 31% Surge In GCC Arrivals Last Year

In 2024, Barbados witnessed a significant 31% surge in tourists from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, marking a notable increase in interest from travelers seeking high-quality, authentic Caribbean experiences.

The increased attraction of Barbados to these travelers is attributed to its pristine beaches, rich culinary offerings, and a plethora of activities catering to families and wellness enthusiasts, including luxury all-inclusive resorts designed for family vacations.

Barbados Sees 31 Increase in GCC Tourism

Leading the growth in visitor numbers from the GCC region, the UAE and Saudi Arabia observed a 30% and 36% increase in tourists, respectively. Additionally, Oman displayed a remarkable 104% uptick in visitors, underscoring the island's growing popularity among Gulf residents. This rise in tourism from the GCC underscores a broader trend of these residents preferring long-haul, luxurious trips to culturally enriched destinations like Barbados.

The Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) has actively pursued a strategy to attract tourists from the GCC through targeted media campaigns, collaborations with travel trade partners, and bespoke destination promotions that resonate with the preferences of travelers from this region. A key element of this approach has been the partnership with dnata Representation Services, which has played a crucial role in bolstering sales, marketing, and public relations initiatives within the GCC market.

Andrea Franklin, CEO of the BTMI, expressed pride in Barbados' growing appeal among discerning GCC travelers, emphasizing the island's commitment to authenticity, luxury, and enriching experiences. Franklin also highlighted the strategic importance of the GCC market, pointing to the appointment of Kyle Gittens as the new Director of Emerging Markets and the significant growth in GCC arrivals as evidence of Barbados' dedication to expanding its international reach and attracting new visitors.

Kyle C. Gittens, BTMI's Director of Emerging Markets, echoed the sentiment of seizing the emerging potential of the GCC as a source market. Gittens emphasized Barbados' capability to offer unique, meaningful experiences that cater to the desires of GCC travelers, ranging from immersive cultural explorations to unparalleled hospitality. This commitment is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Barbados' presence in the GCC and continue driving tourism growth from the region.

As Barbados endeavors to enhance its global tourism footprint, the GCC stands out as a pivotal market for strategic expansion and long-term development in the tourism sector. The island's targeted marketing initiatives and partnerships in the GCC region are set to further solidify its position as a preferred destination for luxury, culture-rich vacations among Gulf residents.
