Qatar: Doha Metro And Tram See 1.67 Million Riders In Just A Week In December 2024

During the week from December 11 to December 18, the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram networks witnessed a significant surge in ridership, with approximately 1.67 million passengers utilizing the services. Qatar Rail released these figures, indicating a robust usage of the public transport systems amid major events in the country.

The majority of this passenger traffic, as detailed by QRail, amounted to 1.6 million people who chose the Doha Metro for their travels. The Lusail Tram also saw considerable use, attracting over 70,000 riders. These services were particularly popular for those attending National Day events and the FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2024 matches, underscoring their importance in connecting fans and attendees to various key locations.

QRail made a point to acknowledge the crucial role of additional services like Metrolink and Metro Express in enhancing the passenger experience. These services are designed to ease the journey to and from metro and tram stations, effectively bridging the first and last mile. Specifically, the Metrolink was operational across 61 routes, servicing 30 metro stations. Meanwhile, the Metro Express facilitated connectivity for 10 metro stations and 12 tram stations, ensuring comprehensive coverage and accessibility for users.

A closer look at the usage patterns revealed that Wednesday emerged as the busiest day for the Doha Metro, with its 37 stations handling around 363,517 passengers. Among these, the Lusail QNB, Souq Waqif, and Katara stations experienced the highest footfall. This spike in ridership reflects the public's reliance on the metro and tram networks to access various entertainment and sports venues efficiently.

With Qatar Rail's commitment to enhancing connectivity through supplementary services, residents and visitors alike can look forward to a seamless and convenient travel experience within the rapidly growing metropolis.
