How IIT students are breaking the cycle of poverty to land top-tier jobs.
Breaking Barriers, Building Futures: Inspiring Journeys of India’s Unstoppable IIT Scholars. Within the demanding environment of IIT Delhi, high performance is expected. However, for students such as Sakshi Padir and Akhshitha Laxmi Devi Rathod, the hurdles extend beyond the intense academic workload; they face a persistent, private struggle against financial constraints.
Yuva Unstoppable, recognized as one of India’s top 10 NGOs, creates a bridge from adversity to professional success. Founded by Yale alumnus Amitabh Shah—who famously turned down a Wall Street career to serve on the ground in India—the organization ensures that the nation's most promising students are not compelled to leave their studies because of tuition costs or equipment failures. To date, the Yuva Unstoppable scholarship program has helped 484 boys and 102 girls from underprivileged and financially disadvantaged backgrounds gain entry into IITs nationwide, transforming narratives of limitation into paths of bravery, ambition, and lasting social mobility.

Breaking the Cycle in Ahmednagar
For Sakshi Padir, hailing from a small town where conversations for 18-year-olds typically revolved around marriage rather than academic achievement, gaining admission to IIT Delhi was an act of sheer defiance. With a total family income of only ₹87,000 and a father employed in a modest private-sector role, the economic pressure was constant.
"I have been surviving without taking money from my parents since my second year," Sakshi shared. To manage necessary expenses, such as laptop repairs, she relied on a friend’s credit card, later repaying the debt by working as a tutor. Her perseverance has yielded results. Sakshi has landed a position at Accenture with an annual salary of ₹21.7 Lakhs—a transformative amount that will allow her to settle her student loans and elevate her family’s financial standing.
"I want to be the support for others that I once received in the form of scholarships and guidance," says Sakshi, who now aims to pursue a career as a product manager before eventually becoming an entrepreneur.
A Joint Family’s Double Triumph
In a similar vein, Akhshitha Laxmi Devi Rathod exemplifies the immense potential found within India’s rural youth. Raised in a large joint family where her father operates a small seed business, the financial burden was significant: both Akhshitha and her brother overcame the odds to earn spots at IIT Delhi and IIT Roorkee, respectively.
Although having two children attending IITs is a source of great pride, it presents a daunting financial challenge for a small-business owner. For Akhshitha, the Yuva Unstoppable scholarship serves as more than just financial aid; it is the "fillip" that enables her to concentrate on her IIT Delhi coursework and her upcoming role at Yes Bank in Mumbai, rather than stressing over her father’s capacity to fund the next semester.
Swati Shah, Head- Scholarships at Yuva Unstoppable, remarked, "Financial aid opens the door, but it is the mentorship and career guidance we provide that ensures our students walk through it with confidence. We are grateful to our donors who believe in the potential of these students and support them emotionally through this journey."
A Vision for "Unstoppable" Leaders
These narratives form the core of Yuva Unstoppable’s mission. To date, the organization has supported more than 7,000 merit scholars. Looking ahead, the group plans to scale its impact significantly by 2030, with a goal of empowering 15,000 merit scholars. The program offers more than just financial assistance; it provides holistic support, such as mentorship, career counseling, and professional development webinars. Notable success stories include alumni who have gone on to become Medical Officers and Chartered Accountants at prestigious firms like PwC.
Amitabh Shah, Founder of Yuva Unstoppable, views these students as the architects of a Viksit Bharat. "A scholarship is more than a financial transaction; it is a vote of confidence that tells a young person their circumstances do not define their destination," remarked Amitabh. "By supporting students like Sakshi and Akhshitha, we are enabling a one-generation jump for entire families out of poverty."
As these young women get ready to enter the corporate world at global leaders like Accenture and Yes Bank, they carry with them more than just a degree; they carry proof that with appropriate support, no ambition is out of reach, regardless of one's small-town origins.
