100 Lives Restored: The Success of MAMS Hospitals Free Knee Replacement Program

Hyderabad, July 6, 2026: To celebrate the birthday of its Managing Director and Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dr. Puvvada Nayan Raj, MAMS Hospitals has reinforced its pledge to inclusive healthcare. During an event held at the Mamata Academy of Medical Sciences in Bachupally, Hyderabad, the institution unveiled several new welfare programs. The hospital used the occasion to underscore its long-standing mission of community service, emphasizing that high-standard medical treatment should be available to everyone, regardless of their background.

A cornerstone of the hospital’s outreach is its free healthcare scheme for underprivileged patients. MAMS Hospitals has now surpassed the milestone of 100 free Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgeries, with more than 40 of these procedures conducted during the most recent phase. This initiative covers the entire cost of the surgery, including the use of imported implants, for eligible individuals struggling with chronic knee issues, thereby restoring their mobility and enhancing their overall well-being.

Community Service and Healthcare Initiatives

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Puvvada Nayan Raj said that dedicating his birthday to community service gives him immense satisfaction. He noted that many patients continue to suffer from debilitating knee conditions because they cannot afford surgery. With the objective of ensuring that financial hardship does not prevent anyone from receiving advanced medical treatment, the hospital launched the free knee replacement programme and will continue to expand such initiatives in the future.

Dr. Nayan Raj also pointed out that MAMS Hospitals has distributed free maternity kits to underprivileged mothers since the program began. Under the guidance of Executive Director Mrs. Puvvada Aparna Raj, this effort has grown; the hospital now offers financial aid of ₹5,000 for the birth of a baby boy and ₹6,000 for the birth of a baby girl to qualifying families. This project is designed to assist mothers during delivery, foster maternal and child health, and promote the welfare of the girl child.

Puvvada Ajay Kumar, former Transport Minister and Chairman of the Mamata Educational Society, remarked that the Society has consistently held the view that high-quality education and healthcare must be within reach for every deserving person. He further stated that these community welfare efforts are set to grow in the years ahead.

Dr. Brigadier P.S.K. Patel, Superintendent of MAMS Hospitals, noted that the free knee replacement initiative adheres to international standards. He explained that the hospital’s team—comprising skilled orthopaedic surgeons, anaesthesia specialists, nursing staff, and physiotherapists—collaborates closely to provide superior patient care. He also shared his pride in contributing to a program that creates a tangible, positive impact on the community.

Attendees at the event included Puvvada Ajay Kumar, Dr. Puvvada Nayan Raj, Mrs. Puvvada Aparna Raj, Dr. Brigadier P.S.K. Patel, along with various doctors, nursing staff, physiotherapists, administrative personnel, hospital employees, public representatives, notable citizens, and members of the media.
