Eastern Region Governor Unveils King Fahd Airport Master Plan And SAR1.6 Billion Development Projects

Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of the Eastern Region, has unveiled a new identity and master plan for King Fahd International Airport. This launch also included master plans for Al-Ahsa and Al-Qaisumah airports. The event introduced the Dammam Airports Strategy and a series of development projects worth over SAR1.6 billion, focusing on infrastructure improvements to boost operational efficiency and enhance passenger experiences.

The newly announced projects encompass 77 infrastructure initiatives designed to improve airport operations. These developments aim to significantly enhance the passenger experience at King Fahd International Airport. A key highlight of the event was the introduction of Air Arabia, a national low-cost carrier based at King Fahd International Airport, which will serve 24 domestic and 57 international destinations.

Governor Launches King Fahd Airport Master Plan

In attendance were notable figures such as Saleh Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistic Services and Chairman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), GACA President Abdulaziz Al-Duailej, and Director General of Passports Major General Dr. Saleh Al-Marba. The governor also inaugurated new electronic gates at the airport to streamline passenger processing.

The strategic plan for King Fahd International Airport aims to accommodate over 19.3 million passengers annually by 2030, doubling the number served in 2022. Additionally, it seeks to expand air cargo capacity to more than 600,000 tons per year, marking a 1,000% increase. This expansion aligns with Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, positioning the airport as a major regional logistics hub.

Future developments include expanding operational capacity to handle up to 77 aircraft movements per hour and increasing annual passenger capacity to 32 million. These enhancements are part of a broader effort to elevate general aviation facilities and infrastructure to meet top international standards.

Passenger Traffic Growth

By the end of 2024, King Fahd International Airport had experienced a significant rise in passenger traffic, with a 35% increase compared to 2022 figures. This growth reflects the successful implementation of strategic initiatives aimed at boosting airport capacity and efficiency.

The comprehensive upgrades planned for King Fahd International Airport are set to transform it into a pivotal logistics hub in the region. With these developments, Saudi Arabia continues its commitment to enhancing its aviation sector in line with its ambitious Vision 2030 goals.
