EGA Advances Plans To Establish First New Primary Aluminium Production Plant In The United States Since 1980
Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has announced plans to establish the first new primary aluminium production plant in the United States since 1980. The facility will have a capacity of 600,000 tonnes annually, nearly doubling the country's current output. This development aims to reduce reliance on imports, which currently supply 85% of the aluminium needed by American industries such as automotive, aviation, and construction.
EGA's proposed plant will be located in Oklahoma, contingent upon securing a competitive long-term power supply and investment incentives. The company is negotiating with the Public Service Company of Oklahoma and local authorities. An exclusive land option agreement has been signed for a site at Tulsa Port of Inola, which offers efficient freight movement via its connection to the Mississippi River system.

The project represents an estimated $4 billion investment by EGA. Construction is expected to commence following a feasibility study, with operations anticipated by the end of this decade. The plant is projected to create up to 4,000 construction jobs at its peak and provide 1,000 permanent positions once operational.
Governor Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with EGA. "We want more goods manufactured in Oklahoma," he stated. "EGA’s new plant will be the heart of a broader hub for strategic industry in Oklahoma." He highlighted the potential for job creation and economic resilience that this project brings to both the state and nation.
EGA's CEO Abdulnasser Bin Kalban emphasised the significance of this venture for both EGA and US-UAE economic relations. "The United States has been an important market for EGA for several decades," he said. "This is an important moment for EGA, and for the economic relationship between the United States and the United Arab Emirates."
The new facility is expected to catalyse further industrial development in Oklahoma, fostering a local aluminium-focused hub. This initiative will create additional employment opportunities within upstream supply chains and downstream manufacturing sectors.
EGA's Technological Edge
EGA is renowned for its advanced aluminium production technology developed over 35 years. This expertise will be instrumental in constructing the new plant. The US already represents one of EGA’s largest markets globally, with numerous fabricators utilising its metal nationwide.
In addition to primary production capabilities, EGA holds an 80% stake in EGA Spectro Alloys in Minnesota, acquired in 2024. This facility enhances EGA’s recycled aluminium production capacity. Plans are underway to expand this capacity by adding 55 thousand tonnes of recycled billet capacity by mid-2025.
This strategic expansion underscores EGA's commitment to strengthening its presence in the US market while contributing significantly to local economies through job creation and industrial growth.
