Yango App Enhances Driver Experience With Prayer Timing Alerts During Ramadan
In a notable move aligning technology with religious practices, international ride-hailing service Yango, under the global technology firm of the same name, has introduced a novel feature within its driver application to accommodate the prayer schedules of its drivers. This innovation, which is now accessible to partners' drivers in the UAE, Morocco, and several other countries, underscores Yango's dedication to customizing global technologies for the specific needs of local communities. The launch, coinciding with the Holy Month of Ramadan, marks a significant stride in acknowledging and respecting the religious commitments of drivers.
The newly introduced mode facilitates drivers in merging their work routines with their religious obligations effortlessly. Through the application of advanced technology, underpinned by thorough research and bespoke algorithms, Yango has crafted a solution that allows drivers to locate and navigate to the nearest mosque with ease, directly from the app. This feature is particularly beneficial in unfamiliar territories.

Upon activating this feature, drivers are alerted with a 15-minute reminder prior to each prayer time, alongside the automatic silencing of app notifications to prevent any distractions during prayer. This ensures a smooth workflow, as missed potential rides are redirected to nearby drivers. Additionally, the feature provides Qibla direction and a prayer schedule for the upcoming two days, with adjustable settings for prayer time calculations based on preferred Islamic conventions.
Islam Abdul Karim, General Manager of Yango GCC, expressed that this initiative, which will continue beyond Ramadan, aims to foster a more inclusive and supportive working environment for drivers. "It enriches their work-life balance, blending advanced technology with local customs and practices. We are keen to not only enhance their daily experience but also set standards for cultural consideration within the tech industry," he stated. The company anticipates extending this feature to partner couriers shortly.
In addition to this technological innovation, Yango has also taken steps to support its drivers' physical wellbeing during Ramadan by distributing special Iftar boxes. This gesture is part of a broader initiative to provide support to the community during the holy month, with a dedicated zone established near its centre for this purpose.
Yango's commitment to innovation extends across its diverse service range, which includes Yango Maps, Yango ride-hailing service, Yango Play, Yango Tech, and the advanced Arabic human-like AI voice assistant Yasmina, among others. These services are designed with the aim of enhancing the daily lives of local communities, demonstrating Yango's dedication to integrating world-leading technology with local traditions and practices.
