Vacheron Constantin's Fiftysix Collection Revives '50s Glam

The Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix collection, first introduced in 2018, is making a notable return. This series blends different eras and styles seamlessly. The 40 mm pink gold case now features a black dial and an anthracite nubuck calfskin leather strap, creating a sophisticated retro-contemporary look. The collection draws its unique identity from the 1950s' aesthetics and the iconic Reference 6073, crafted by Vacheron Constantin in 1956.

The Fiftysix collection's design is deeply rooted in Vacheron Constantin's rich heritage. It takes inspiration from two main sources: the 1950s' aesthetics, particularly the Reference 6073 created in 1956, and the Maltese cross emblem of the Manufacture. This emblem subtly appears in various details across different models within the collection. The Fiftysix aesthetic merges styles and eras through multiple variations in pink gold or steel, powered by a self-winding movement available in a complete calendar version or with day, date, and power-reserve indication.

New Vacheron Fiftysix Watch Launch

The new Fiftysix self-winding model showcases an original mix of gold, black, and anthracite tones. Its 40 mm round 18K 5N pink gold case is complemented by lugs that evoke a Maltese cross. The sector-type dial, typical of watches from the 1950s, is black for the first time in this collection. It features double finishes: opaline at the centre and sunburst on the surrounding chapter ring, creating an elegant interplay of light and shadow with the warm glow of pink gold.

The contrast on the dial continues with applied 18K 5N pink gold Roman numerals, hour markers, and hands coated with luminescent material for better visibility in low light. The dial's aesthetics are further enhanced by a box-type sapphire crystal atop the bezel, reminiscent of post-war watches. This retro-contemporary look is completed by an anthracite nubuck calfskin leather strap with ecru stitching.

On the reverse side, the Calibre 1326 self-winding movement can be seen through the sapphire crystal caseback. The movement features Côtes de Genève finishing and an open-worked pink gold oscillating weight adorned with a Maltese cross. This symbol has represented Vacheron Constantin's watchmaking excellence for nearly 270 years.

The Fiftysix collection's strong identity is inspired by the golden age of round, elegant timepieces from the 1950s. Specifically, it draws from Reference 6073 presented by Vacheron Constantin in 1956. This watch holds a special place within the Maison's heritage as one of its first timepieces to feature a self-winding movement when most were still hand-wound.

In addition to its technical precision and reliability, it boasts strong character and retro elegance. Fiftysix watches borrow their streamlined design from their predecessor, reinforced by lugs inspired by branches of the Maltese cross. Like vintage models, they also feature box-type sapphire crystals topping their bezels.

This blend of past and present makes each piece in the Fiftysix collection unique while paying homage to Vacheron Constantin’s long-standing tradition of excellence in watchmaking.
