Vacheron Constantin Revives Fiftysix Collection Of Watches With Elegant New Self-Winding Model

The Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix collection, first introduced in 2018, is making a notable return. This series blends different eras and styles seamlessly. The 40 mm pink gold case now features a black dial and an anthracite nubuck calfskin leather strap, creating a sophisticated retro-modern look. The collection draws its strong identity from the 1950s' aesthetics and the iconic Reference 6073, crafted by Vacheron Constantin in 1956.

Part retro and part contemporary, the Fiftysix collection is deeply rooted in Vacheron Constantin's heritage. Its design inspiration comes from two main sources: the 1950s' aesthetics, especially Reference 6073 created by the Maison in 1956, and the Manufacture's Maltese cross emblem. This emblem subtly appears in various details across different models in the collection. The Fiftysix aesthetic merges styles and eras through multiple variations in pink gold or steel, driven by a self-winding movement with either a complete calendar version or day, date, and power-reserve indication.

New Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix Model

Retro-Contemporary Design

The new Fiftysix self-winding model showcases an original combination of gold, black, and anthracite tones. Its 40 mm round 18K 5N pink gold case is elegantly extended by lugs that evoke a Maltese cross. For the first time in this collection, it features a black-toned sector-type dial with double finishes—opaline at the centre and sunburst on the surrounding chapter ring. This design offers an elegant play on light and shade with the warm shimmer of pink gold.

The contrast continues with applied 18K 5N pink gold Roman numerals, hour-markers, and hands coated with luminescent material for enhanced legibility in low light conditions. The dial's aesthetics are further enhanced by a box-type sapphire crystal topping the bezel, reminiscent of post-war watches. This retro-contemporary look is complemented by an anthracite nubuck calfskin leather strap with ecru stitching.

Calibre 1326 Movement

On the reverse side of the watch, the Calibre 1326 self-winding movement can be seen through the sapphire crystal caseback. The movement features Côtes de Genève finishing. The pink gold oscillating weight is open-worked and adorned with a Maltese cross, symbolising Vacheron Constantin's watchmaking excellence for nearly 270 years.

The Fiftysix collection's personality is firmly rooted in the golden age of round, elegant timepieces from the 1950s. Specifically inspired by Reference 6073 presented by Vacheron Constantin in 1956, this watch holds a special place within the Maison's heritage as one of its first timepieces to feature a self-winding movement when most were still hand-wound.

Strong Character and Retro Elegance

In addition to its technical features ensuring precision and reliability, it also boasts strong character and retro elegance. Fiftysix watches borrow their streamlined design from their predecessor, reinforced by lugs inspired by branches of the Maltese cross. Like vintage models, they feature a box-type crystal dominating the bezel, a sector-type dial, and harmoniously alternating Arabic numerals and baton-style hour-markers characteristic of the 1950s.

This blend of historical inspiration and modern craftsmanship ensures that each piece in the Fiftysix collection stands out while paying homage to Vacheron Constantin's rich legacy.
