Vacheron Constantin Reveals a Dual-Time Masterpiece with Les Cabinotiers Temporis Duo

Vacheron Constantin has achieved a rare feat by combining a minute repeater, split-seconds chronograph, and tourbillon regulator in the Les Cabinotiers Temporis Duo Grand Complication Openface.

This watch showcases the brand's latest technical advancements and material research. The Calibre 2757 S, with nearly 700 components, is meticulously decorated and hand-finished. Its intricate design is visible through the sapphire dial and case back of the 45mm pink gold case.

The Maison's history with chiming watches dates back over two centuries. Their first striking timepiece was documented in 1806 as a gold quarter-repeating pocket watch.

Since then, Vacheron Constantin has honed its expertise in creating striking and repeating watches. Notable examples include the 1827 grande and petite sonneries watch, Reference 4261 from the early 1940s, and Reference 57260 with its numerous complications.

Technical Mastery in Watchmaking

The Calibre 2757 S is a testament to Vacheron Constantin's horological mastery. It contains 696 components within a movement that measures just 10.4 mm high and 33.3 mm in diameter.

Despite its complexity, it maintains the elegance synonymous with the brand. The movement's design prioritises performance, especially in its chronograph functions.

The split-seconds chronograph mechanism features two coaxial hands for measuring intermediate times. This system evolved from a single-hand configuration introduced in 1831 to a two-hand setup by 1838. Vacheron Constantin quickly integrated these innovations into their pocket chronographs.

Innovative Materials and Design

To optimise performance, new materials were used in Calibre 2757 S. Titanium and nickel-phosphorus form some gear train wheels, while aluminium is used for the chronograph seconds hands due to its rigidity and lightness. Silicon, requiring no lubrication, is utilised for one of the split-seconds levers.

The minute repeater benefits from technical enhancements like a flying strike governor using centrifugal and centripetal forces for consistent energy release. This silent mechanism ensures clear note distinction without mechanical noise interference.

Aesthetic Excellence

The Les Cabinotiers Temporis Duo Grand Complication Openface features a transparent sapphire dial only 0.5 mm thick.

It boasts polished and frosted finishes on counters encircled by gold rings applied via metallisation on sapphire discs' undersides. Grey NAC-treated hour markers complement engraved chronograph markers.

The tourbillon at six o'clock includes a spherical hairspring for improved isochronism. Its cage design draws inspiration from Vacheron Constantin's emblematic Maltese cross, held by a hand-bevelled bridge performing one rotation per minute.

Historical Evolution of Watchmaking Expertise

This timepiece reflects Vacheron Constantin's dedication to preserving watchmaking knowledge across generations—a core value since producing an independent deadbeat seconds pocket watch with a quarter repeater in 1819.

Vacheron Constantin's archives first mention tourbillons in an order from Paris in 1901 for a complex timepiece featuring this regulator type.

Over time, they developed multi-axis solutions like Les Cabinotiers Tourbillon Armillaire bi-axial wristwatch with spherical hairspring or Berkley Grand Complication triple-axis tourbillon models.

Commitment to Craftsmanship

The meticulous finishing of Calibre 2757 S took twice as long as assembling it into its case—demonstrating Vacheron Constantin's commitment to craftsmanship excellence passed down through generations akin to cabinotiers' work methods from centuries ago.

A single watchmaker oversees every aspect—from component finishing through assembly operations—to adjustment/casing processes—highlighting dedication towards safeguarding traditional expertise transmission within horology today.
