Maithreem Bhajata Reimagined By UAE-based Indian Artists For Global Peace
More than 30 Indian performing artists based in the United Arab Emirates have collaborated on “Mission Global Peace – Maithreem Bhajata,” a digital recreation of the historic hymn that received a standing ovation at the United Nations in 1966, highlighting friendship, peace, and shared humanity.
The project revisits “Maithreem Bhajata,” composed by Chandrasekarendra Saraswati and originally rendered at the UN by Bharat Ratna M. S. Subbulakshmi. The new UAE-based production adapts the hymn’s core appeal—cultivating friendship and winning hearts, not nations—for contemporary audiences across digital platforms.

The initiative has been presented by the Global Indian Performing Arts & Music Society (GIPAMS), in partnership with IPF UAE. Conceptualised and directed by Guru. Iswarya Bharadwaj, it features leading Indian classical dancers, musicians, and vocalists currently active across the Emirates.
Music direction for “Mission Global Peace – Maithreem Bhajata” is by Renuka Parameswar, with production handled by Varathraj Kumar from Ameeraga Valai Oli / AVO Studio, Dubai. The project has already recorded more than 15K views and 1.5K likes, and has been widely shared across social media platforms.
Spanning multiple classical disciplines, the ensemble reflects the UAE’s multicultural character, drawing together artists from different Indian traditions. The performance frames the original Sanskrit message of harmony within the context of the country’s role as a global centre for coexistence, cultural dialogue, and artistic collaboration.
The hymn’s renewed presentation focuses on its timeless ethical appeal, delivered through coordinated choreography and vocal arrangements. By situating the work in the UAE, the creators highlight how classical art forms are being used to articulate shared values of peace and mutual respect in a diverse society.
