TeamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi Opening Announced With Unique Art Experience

teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi will open for visitors on 18 April in the Saadiyat Cultural District. This announcement comes from the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, Miral, and art collective teamLab. The 17,000 sqm venue will offer a multi-sensory art experience operated by Miral Experiences, a subsidiary of Miral.

The exhibits at teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi are designed to engage visitors' senses, including sight, sound, and touch. These installations encourage guests to explore new ways of connecting with their surroundings. The artworks are not standalone pieces; instead, they interact with the environment to create dynamic phenomena that ensure each visit is unique.

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of DCT Abu Dhabi, highlighted the significance of the Saadiyat Cultural District. He stated that it reflects Abu Dhabi's dedication to preserving heritage while embracing a progressive vision. The district aims to promote cultural diversity and foster global connections through artistic expression.

Al Mubarak further explained that teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi will provide an immersive journey that ignites curiosity and imagination. By merging art, technology, and nature, it will inspire creativity among visitors from Abu Dhabi and beyond. This initiative seeks to nurture future innovators and thinkers.

The concept behind teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi is rooted in 'Environmental Phenomena'. This idea was developed by the Tokyo-based art collective teamLab through extensive experimentation. The installations are housed in a purpose-built structure designed by teamLab Architects alongside MZ Architects from Abu Dhabi.

Toshiyuki Inoko, Founder of teamLab, elaborated on the unique nature of these artworks. He explained that they do not exist independently but are created by environmental factors that produce various phenomena. Unlike traditional creations with stable structures, these artworks rely on their surroundings for existence.

The architecture of teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi plays a crucial role in allowing exhibits to evolve organically. Designed by teamLab Architects with input from MZ Architects, the structure supports the dynamic nature of the installations. This approach ensures that each visit offers a fresh experience for guests.
