Insight: Industry Leaders Report Surge In Consumer Spending As Event Season Commences

With the commencement of the event season in the UAE, a noticeable increase in demand is observed across multiple sectors, notably in mobility, hospitality, and retail. This surge is attributed to a series of major events taking place in the region, leading to a heightened level of bookings, sales, and general consumer engagement. The trend signifies a robust rebound in industries related to travel, tourism, and events, marking a positive shift from previous challenges.

Industry leaders are witnessing substantial growth in consumer interest and transactions, indicating the event season's significant impact on the economy. The rise in activity within these sectors showcases the UAE's ongoing recovery and growth, underscoring the importance of events in stimulating various aspects of the regional market.

Demand Surge in UAE Event Season

This vibrant period not only boosts the economy but also highlights the UAE's capabilities as a premier destination for international events. The positive trends observed across mobility, hospitality, and retail sectors mirror the broader recovery of the travel and tourism industry, further solidifying the UAE's position on the global stage.

Soham Shah, CEO of Selfdrive Mobility, highlighted the impact of major events on vehicle reservations, noting a 25% increase from the previous year. The surge is attributed to business and leisure travelers' demand, with luxury sedans and SUVs being particularly popular. Shah pointed out that strategic locations such as Downtown Dubai and Palm Jumeirah are hotspots for demand, anticipating a further 30% growth in short-term reservations.

"With the event season in full swing, we are observing a substantial increase in vehicle reservations, driven by heightened demand from both business and leisure travelers. Major events such as GITEX Global, Dubai Airshow, and the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix are contributing significantly to this surge, with a notable rise in short-term rentals and long-term subscriptions," Shah stated.

Vinayak Mahtani, CEO of bnbme holiday homes, also reported an upward trajectory in demand and pricing for properties, forecasting double-digit growth. The early season has already seen a 15% increase in reservations for properties in sought-after locations like Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah. Mahtani noted, "Yes, we are seeing demand go up, and pricing for our properties is starting to rise as well by 20%. It's the time of year we all anticipate, and the momentum is building steadily."

Ashok Pathirage, Chairman of Softlogic, shared insights into the retail sector's strategic moves, with the launch of COCO by Cotton Collection in the UAE. This initiative aims to capitalize on the event season's energy, enhancing customer engagement and brand loyalty.

"At Softlogic, we recognize that Sept to December are powerful months, given it's a busy event season. With this in mind, we have decided to launch our Sri Lankan Boho brand – COCO by Cotton Collection, this September in the UAE. We are confident that this season will allow us to engage directly with our audience, gather valuable feedback, and create a sense of community around our brand," Pathirage remarked.

In the hospitality sector, Michael Chan, General Manager of Park Regis Kris Kin Hotel Dubai, pointed to a gradual increase in bookings ahead of significant trade events and conferences. With the hotel's strategic location and the cooler season drawing near, an upswing in both business and leisure travel is anticipated. Despite a challenging summer, the hotel is optimistic about a 6% rise in occupancy rates, although revenue projections are tempered by a potential 2% decrease.

Chan explained, "As the traditional cooler season approaches, we are seeing a gradual increase in booking activity, particularly in anticipation of annual trade events and conferences. With our proximity to the World Trade Centre and convenient public transportation access, we expect a further rise in demand."

The collective insights from leaders across the mobility, hospitality, and retail sectors paint a promising picture of the event season's positive impact on demand and growth. As the event calendar continues to unfold, these industries are poised for further expansion, buoyed by the resurgence of travel and tourism and the allure of major gatherings.
