Surf Abu Dhabi Set To Open With World's Highest Man-Made Wave In October

Surf Abu Dhabi, the latest attraction in the UAE, is scheduled to open to the public in October, according to its developers. The artificial wave park on Hudayriyat Island will feature the world's longest ride, largest barrel, and highest man-made wave. It is designed for surfers of all skill levels, from beginners to elite.

Kelly Slater, a renowned surfer, collaborated with Abu Dhabi real estate developer Modon Properties to build this park. Slater, 52, praised the park after an exclusive preview in November with a group of champion surfers. "I've surfed hundreds of incredible waves across the world and this wave in Abu Dhabi stacks up well against some of the best waves on Earth," said the 11-time World Surf League champion. "I've drawn on that travelling surf education to design the wave at Surf Abu Dhabi."

Jeff Fleeher, president of Kelly Slater Wave Company (KSWC), highlighted that Surf Abu Dhabi will also be capable of hosting major international surf competitions. This facility will provide professional surfers with perfect conditions for training or competing. "The KSWC Team is thrilled to launch our partnership and Kelly's world-class wave with Modon at Surf Abu Dhabi," Fleeher stated. "It's our dream to share the stoke of surfing with the world and we are excited to help take the region's surf culture to new levels."

The capital city is not traditionally known for its surfing scene. Slater expressed his surprise at being asked to design and build a wave in Abu Dhabi. He remarked that it was something he never believed would become a reality.

Slater added that Surf Abu Dhabi will offer endless fun for many people by creating an opportunity to surf an incredible wave in a unique part of the world. This experience will cater to both experienced and beginning surfers. Surf Abu Dhabi aims to host international competitions upon opening. The park promises to be a top draw for amateur surfers while providing professional surfers with ideal conditions for training or competition.

The collaboration between Modon Properties and Kelly Slater has resulted in a facility designed to elevate surfing culture in the region significantly. The artificial wave park is expected to attract both local residents and tourists, offering them a chance to experience world-class surfing without leaving Abu Dhabi.

This new attraction underscores Abu Dhabi's commitment to diversifying its recreational offerings and enhancing its appeal as a global destination.
