Saudi Arabia Unveils Masterplan For Massive Tourism & Leisure Hub At THE RIG
Saudi Arabia is set to transform THE RIG into an innovative tourist, leisure hub. THE RIG is a world-first adventure tourism destination inspired by oil platforms to celebrate the legacy and history of Saudi Arabia’s long oil and gas heritage. The one-of-a-kind hospitality and adventure experience will be built in the Arabian Gulf, with a gross floor area of over 300,000 square metres.
In a recent development, the Kingdom solidified its ambitions in enhancing its tourism and entertainment sectors through a significant collaboration involving the Principality of Eastern Region and a crucial subsidiary of the Saudi sovereign wealth fund PIF. This partnership aims to bring to life THE RIG project, an initiative set to redefine marine and tourism experiences in the region.
The comprehensive investment agreement encompasses the construction, development, operation, and maintenance of a multifaceted tourist and visitor station. This includes a marina designed for yachts and seaplanes, helipads, and an array of other support activities vital for the project's success.
The ceremonial signing of the agreement took place in Dammam, witnessed by Prince Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Region. This project aligns with the larger vision to activate marine activities and establish unparalleled tourism and entertainment destinations within the area.
Following the announcement of investment projects valued at $4.8 billion by Prince Saud, THE RIG project is poised to feature an array of attractions. These include hotels, amusement parks, water sports facilities, and other adventures. Additionally, the project is set to offer facilities catering to the needs of visitors and tourists, alongside helipads, a seaplane marina, and yachts. A highlight of THE RIG will be its three hotels and eleven restaurants, promising a diverse and enriching experience for all.
Officials have highlighted the project's distinctive nature, being the world's first tourist destination inspired by offshore oil platforms in the Arabian Gulf. This unique concept is expected to position THE RIG as a standout attraction on a global scale.
THE RIG is located 40 km from the coastline, near Al Juraid Island and Berri Oil Field in the Arabian Gulf. With its central platform near Al Juraid Island, THE RIG is set to offer a new dimension in entertainment, tourism, marine activities, and transportation, enhancing overall quality of life.
This significant agreement aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, aiming to elevate living standards and diversify the economy. The Eastern Region's capacity to attract substantial investment capital, positioning it as a leader in foreign investment attraction, underscores the strategic importance of projects such as THE RIG in realising these national goals.
