Ras Al Khaimah Launches Endearing 'Pause For Paws' To Support Animal Adoption

Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) has introduced the 'Pause for Paws' campaign in collaboration with the RAK Animal Welfare Center (RAKAWC) and local organisations. This initiative aims to find loving homes for rescued cats and dogs across the emirate.

Launching on August 17th, coinciding with International Homeless Animals Day, the campaign will highlight efforts to care for and rehome homeless animals. Each week, a different cat or dog from RAKAWC will be featured on social media, sharing their stories to inspire adoptions.

RAK s New Campaign for Animal Welfare

Community Support for Animal Welfare

RAKTDA and RAKAWC have garnered support from key organisations such as RAK Ports, Stevin Rock, Ras Al Khaimah Government Media Office, and RAK Hospitality Holding. This collective effort showcases a shared commitment to animal welfare in the community.

"Ras Al Khaimah is a close-knit community, and at RAKTDA, we are committed to supporting, educating, and inspiring our residents," explains Raki Phillips, CEO of RAKTDA. "Our mission is to raise awareness about the importance of animal welfare and inspire our community to take action. By working together, we can ensure that every cat and dog at RAKAWC finds a loving family thereby building a stronger, more compassionate Ras Al Khaimah. Together, let's be the voice for the voiceless and make a real difference to the lives of these animals."

Highlighting Unique Animal Stories

RAKAWC has been rescuing stray animals in Ras Al Khaimah for over ten years. The centre currently cares for more than 600 cats and dogs awaiting adoption. Each animal has a unique story; for instance, Smoky is a toothless cat found abandoned in a cardboard box.

To bring 'Pause for Paws' to life, a photoshoot was conducted featuring individual images of cats and dogs at the rescue centre. This included participation from RAKTDA's CEO and senior management from various Ras Al Khaimah organisations.

Engaging Social Media Campaign

The campaign introduces a 'Chief Pawsitivity Officer' (CPO) each week alongside a CEO from a Ras Al Khaimah government entity. These appointments will be highlighted on social media to drive adoptions further.

The @VisitRasAlKhaimah Instagram account will showcase professionally photographed cats or dogs weekly. These high-quality images aim to capture the true personalities of the animals, increasing their appeal to potential adopters.

Educational Initiatives

RAKTDA and RAKAWC will also hold animal welfare awareness sessions at local schools. These sessions aim to educate children on how to care for and protect animals.

These efforts are part of RAKTDA's ongoing 'All About You' brand campaign featuring 'World's Most Relaxed Cat.’ This campaign not only highlights Ras Al Khaimah's natural beauty but also underscores the importance of animal welfare.

Earlier this year, as part of its 'Most Relaxed Cat in the World’ campaign, RAKTDA engaged young Emirati students at the Higher College of Technology (HCT). Students presented creative works focused on sustainable design. Aamal Altenaiji won with her innovative 'Prowling Cat Activity Book,' recognised by judges from RAKTDA leadership and notable marketing figures.

The 'Pause for Paws' campaign reflects Ras Al Khaimah's dedication to animal welfare and community engagement. Through these initiatives, many rescued animals will find loving homes while raising awareness about their plight among residents.
