Sharjah Police have selected five locations in the emirate to place cannons to be fired at sunset to announce Iftar, throughout Ramadan. This tradition, observed in several Arab and Muslim countries, signals the end of the day's fast.

The cannons will be placed at key locations including Al Majaz Waterfront in Sharjah city, Hison Al Dhaid in the Central Region, Clock Tower in Kalba city, Khor Fakkan Amphitheatre in Khor Fakkan, and Dibba Al Hisn Comprehensive Centre Square in Dibba Al Hisn. These spots were carefully selected to accommodate the large gatherings that come to witness this significant moment every day during Ramadan.

Iftar, the meal consumed to break the fast, is scheduled around 6.30pm in Sharjah, aligning with the time of sunset. The firing of the iftar cannon is a tradition deeply rooted in history, serving not only as a call to break the fast but also as an event that fosters community spirit and unity. Sharjah Police highlighted the popularity of this event among both Muslims and non-Muslims, who come together to experience the communal atmosphere.

The event's significance extends beyond the local community. It is broadcast live, allowing people to share this moment with their families, regardless of where they are. Sharjah TV provides live coverage of the cannon firing, making it accessible to a wider audience and enabling those afar to partake in the tradition virtually.

As anticipation for this daily event grows, Sharjah Police have issued a reminder to the public regarding parking. Visitors are urged not to park their vehicles in the middle of the road to prevent traffic congestion. This appeal underscores the importance of maintaining order and safety, ensuring that the iftar cannon firing remains a joyous and smooth experience for all attendees.

This tradition of firing cannons to announce iftar time in Sharjah not only highlights the cultural richness of the region but also strengthens community bonds. It serves as a reminder of the values of Ramadan, encouraging unity, reflection, and celebration among individuals from all walks of life.
