Oman To Highlight Tourism Sector Expansion At Arabian Travel Market 2024

The Sultanate of Oman is gearing up to showcase its burgeoning tourism sector at the 31st edition of the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) Exhibition in Dubai, represented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism. This participation, set for Monday, underscores Oman's commitment to enhancing its tourism industry, a vital component of its national economy.

According to Haitham Mohammed Al Ghassani, Director General of Promotion at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Middle East region has seen significant tourism growth following the COVID-19 pandemic, as per World Tourism Organisation indicators. Oman's engagement in ATM 2024 is strategically aimed at forging new relationships and sharing knowledge and expertise across various spheres of the tourism sector.

The event serves as a prime venue for promoting the Sultanate's tourism attractions, including the Khareef Dhofar season and other activities. Al Ghassani highlighted the heritage and tourism sector's pivotal role in Oman's development process, supported by strategic visions aimed at bolstering the national economy.

Oman's tourism sector has demonstrated consistent growth across all areas, contributing 2.4% to the gross domestic product by the end of 2022. The number of tourists visiting Oman in 2023 surged to approximately 4 million, marking a 36.7% increase compared to the previous year.

Oman's proactive efforts to position itself as a leading global tourist destination involve promoting its image in international forums, cooperating with partners, and actively participating in prominent events and exhibitions. These initiatives align with Oman's future plans to attract tourists from new markets by offering tailored services and facilities.

Under the theme "Empowering innovation; transforming travel through entrepreneurship," the four-day exhibition will feature the Omani delegation led by Azzan bin Qasim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Tourism at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism. The delegation includes 36 companies and establishments from Oman's tourism sector, among over 200 delegates from the global travel and tourism industry.

The ATM 2024 aims to enhance participant expertise, promote sustainability in the tourism and hospitality sector, and attract investment to boost the sector's global GDP contribution. It will spotlight innovation, entrepreneurship, and development towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals for a more sustainable travel and tourism sector.
