Oman To Showcase Cultural Richness As Special Guest At Seoul Book Fair 2024
The Sultanate of Oman will be a distinguished guest at the Seoul International Book Fair, which runs from 26 to 30 June. The event celebrates the 50th anniversary of Omani-Korean cultural relations. The fair aims to strengthen the concept of knowledge as a fundamental pillar for development, progress, and openness while promoting communication and interaction among various cultures.
Oman's Participation and Cultural Programmes
During the book fair, Oman will present a range of cultural programmes, activities, and examples of Omani writings. These include a discussion panel featuring Omani literati and an exhibition of valuable manuscripts. The Omani pavilion will display numerous publications, such as two books translated into Korean—one being "Celestial Bodies," a novel by Omani author Jokha Al Harthi.
The pavilion is divided into five main sections: publications from government institutions and civil society organisations; Arabic calligraphy with live presentations; Omani manuscripts and rare artefacts; "Omani Majlis," showcasing Omani hospitality, customs, and traditions; and a section highlighting Omani cultural elements listed in UNESCO's World List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Dialogue Sessions and Discussion Panels
Oman's involvement in the event also features a dialogue session titled "The Novel and the Omani Narrative," a paper on translation in Oman within the context of Arabic and Korean languages, a discussion panel on the results of rapprochement between Oman and Korea over the past 50 years, and a panel on feminist literature that explores the daily lives of women in both countries.
