Nazia Khan s Wellness Revolution

What inspired you to start your own coaching program after leaving the corporate world?

My inspiration came from joining the 5am club, which I had wanted to do for some time. Early starts energized me and helped me take control of my mind, health, and fitness. I realized that I was using my corporate job as an excuse for not prioritizing self-care. Once I effortlessly lost 10 kilos through balanced nutrition and consistent exercise, I felt compelled to help other women by simplifying their approach to weight loss. A year later, my "Drop One Kilo a Week" program has transformed over 200 women, helping them achieve their goals without sacrificing the foods they love.

Can you tell us more about your "Drop 1 kg a Week" program? How does it work without relying on diets or intensive workouts?

Many women are overwhelmed by fad diets and quick fixes, which often lead to an unhealthy relationship with food. My program, which helped me lose 10 kilos in 10 weeks, is based on balanced nutrition and consistent physical activity. I focused on lean proteins, complex carbs, healthy fats, and portion control, while engaging in activities like walking, swimming, or strength training. The key pillars are small habits, discipline, and consistency, which over time become a lifestyle change. By building healthy habits, we can replace bad ones within 21 days, and make these new habits last within 90 days.

What services does your app, Coach K, offer?

Coach K, named after my surname, Khan, offers customized nutrition plans, personalized training programs, and daily check-ins. The app ensures that clients stay on track with their weight loss goals and educates them about nutrition. This personalized approach, including daily progress reviews and detailed understanding of nutrition, helps clients become confident in managing their own fitness and health.

Why is weightlifting important for women, and does it make them bulky?

Weightlifting is crucial for women because it builds lean muscle, boosts metabolism, supports fat loss, and strengthens bones, which helps prevent osteoporosis. It also improves mood and confidence. The concern about becoming bulky is a misconception; women generally don't have high levels of testosterone, which is necessary for large muscle growth. Instead, weightlifting helps women achieve a toned, defined physique. With a balanced routine of strength training and proper nutrition, women can look lean and fit.

How does a healthy body contribute to a healthy mind?

The mind and body are deeply interconnected. A healthy body supports a healthy mind in several ways:

  • Physical Activity: Regular exercise releases endorphins that reduce stress and improve mental health.
  • Nutrition: A balanced diet supports brain function and mental clarity, while poor nutrition can lead to fatigue and mood swings.
  • Stress Reduction: A healthy body helps regulate stress hormones, making it easier to manage daily challenges.
  • Self-Esteem: Taking care of your body boosts confidence and positively impacts your mindset.

Can you give us an idea of what you eat in a typical day?

My day starts with a glass of water and vitamins, followed by meditation and a black Americano. For breakfast, I might have sourdough toast with jam, eggs, soaked oats with almond milk, or a smoothie. After a lunchtime workout, I enjoy a lean protein lunch like white fish with vegetables or chicken with salad. My afternoon snack includes Greek yogurt and berries, and my dinner options vary from steak and fries to pasta with chicken. I end the day with a piece of dark chocolate and drink about 2-3 liters of water.

What are some common nutrition and weight loss myths you'd like to debunk?

Here are some myths:

  • Carbs are the enemy: Carbohydrates are essential; focus on complex carbs rather than refined sugars.
  • Cutting out all fats: Healthy fats are crucial for cell function and nutrient absorption.
  • Skipping meals aids weight loss: It can slow metabolism and lead to overeating.
  • Eating late causes weight gain: It's more about what and how much you eat.
  • Extreme workouts are necessary: Consistency with moderate exercise is more effective.
  • All calories are the same: The source of calories matters.
  • Detox diets are needed: Your body detoxes naturally.
  • Supplements can replace a balanced diet: Whole foods are better.
  • Spot reduction works: Fat loss occurs throughout the body.
  • Eating less is key: Focus on eating smarter with nutrient-dense foods.

What advice would you give someone who wants to start but struggles with motivation?

Find a coach who is genuinely invested in your journey. A good coach provides guidance, motivation, and accountability. They help set realistic goals, keep you disciplined, and celebrate your successes. Having someone dedicated to your progress can make a significant difference in staying motivated and achieving your goals.

Can you share a success story that particularly touched you?

One client lost over 25 kilos through our program and underwent a significant personal transformation. She gained confidence, stood up to workplace challenges, and improved her career and personal life. Her journey from losing one kilo a week to achieving a complete life transformation was incredibly rewarding and reinforces my passion for helping other women.

Is it possible to lose or maintain weight while enjoying social events, traveling, and holidays?

Absolutely! My weight rarely fluctuates significantly, even with frequent travel. The key is discipline, adopting new habits, and prioritizing self-care, which turns these practices into a lifestyle. Weight loss and maintenance are about mindset rather than strict diets or intense workouts.
