Lights, Camera, Action! 11th Muscat International Film Festival Begins, Shah Rukh Khan To Be Honoured
The 11th edition of the Muscat International Film Festival has begun. The acclaimed event will honour a number of international and local directors and movie stars during the festival’s 5-day segments, including Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Set to run until March 7, it features a diverse lineup of films from across the globe, including feature films, short films, documentaries, and animation films, all showcased across several venues in the capital.
The festival's opening film, 'The Guard' directed by Abotaleb Sadegh Daghighi from Iran, set the stage for a vibrant start. The day further escalated with the screening of 'Exchange' by Yaser Ahmed and Behruz Bagheri, and 'Rose Water' directed by Mahmood al Shaikh. These screenings highlighted the diversity and richness of cinematic narratives being presented at the festival.
The Muscat International Film Festival, now in its eleventh iteration, stands as a testament to the vibrant cultural scene in Oman under the theme 'Renewed Oman’. The festival has attracted a wide array of talent, with works from acclaimed filmmakers hailing from the USA, Tunisia, Iran, Morocco, as well as from the GCC and the Middle East, making a significant impact. This year, the festival is hosted by the Oman Film Society (OFS), underscoring its commitment to promoting cinematic excellence in the region and beyond.
The movie stars and film directors to be honoured included Indian actor and producer Shah Rukh Khan, Director Satara from Iran, Nelly Karim from Egypt, Hoda Hussein from Kuwait, from Oman Abdullah Habib, Mohammed Al Kindi, Buthainah Al Raisi, Taghlub Al Barwani and Khalil Al Sinani along with Director Yaqoob Al Maqlah from Bahrain and Director Mohammed Bakri from Palestine.
Apart from showcasing a rich selection of films, the festival is also a gathering point for jury members and guests from around the globe, solidifying its position as a major cultural event in the region. The participation of international filmmakers and industry professionals further enriches the festival experience, fostering dialogue and exchange among cultures through the universal language of cinema.
