Met Gala 2024: Hollywood Celebrities Shine In 'The Garden Of Time' Theme
The Met Gala in New York City, renowned for its spectacular display of fashion innovation, did not disappoint on Monday night, May 6, as celebrities dazzled in earthen tones, interpreting the theme "The Garden of Time" with flair. Inspired by J.G. Ballard's 1962 short story, the theme set a mystical ambiance, blending concepts of decay and fairytales into the evening's fashion choices. This theme was a precursor to The Costume Institute's upcoming exhibition, "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion," slated to enchant visitors at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from May 10 until September 2.
Among the evening's highlights were the co-chairs, comprising of luminaries Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, Bad Bunny, and Chris Hemsworth, who shared this prestigious role with Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of American Vogue. Lopez, adorned in a captivating Schiaparelli gown, expressed her honor in being a co-chair, albeit suggesting it might be her final appearance in this role.
Zendaya, not just a co-chair but also a highlight on the cream-colored carpet, presented two distinct looks. Her initial outfit by Maison Margiela celebrated nature with a rich palette and intricate accessories, including a hummingbird necklace. Surprising attendees, Zendaya later appeared in a second ensemble, a vintage piece from Lily et Cie, curated by stylist Law Roach.
The men in attendance, such as Donald Glover, Ed Sheeran, and Jack Harlow, offered a subtler take on the theme with creative twists on classic suits and tuxedos, subtly nodding to the garden-inspired theme. Meanwhile, celebrities like Juliana Canfield, Rosalía, Cardi B, and Dua Lipa opted for all-black attire, with Rosalía aiming to channel "a black tulip" through the lens of designer Maria Grazia Chiuri's vision.
Noticeably absent from the event this year were Met Gala favorites Rihanna, Blake Lively, Kate Moss, Beyoncé, Solange, and Taylor Swift, leaving fans and followers anticipating their future returns to the gala's illustrious red carpet.
