This Study Highlights Kuwaiti Employees As Among The Happiest In The MENA Region
A recent Gallup study, encompassing feedback from over 128,000 employees across more than 160 countries and regions worldwide, has unveiled some intriguing insights about workplace environments globally, with a particular focus on the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The study, carried out in 2023, paints a detailed picture of employee mental health and well-being, delving into aspects such as job engagement, professional development, and the emotional landscapes of workplaces.
In the MENA region, Kuwait emerges as a notable exception amidst widespread concerns over job satisfaction and workplace stress. According to the findings, Kuwaiti workers report the second-lowest levels of daily stress at their jobs, trailing only behind their counterparts in Saudi Arabia. Furthermore, Kuwaiti employees are less likely to feel anger or sadness during their workdays compared to other regional workers, notably outperforming Turkish and Lebanese employees in these metrics.
The study, titled "The State of the Global Workplace for 2024," also highlights that an impressive 84 percent of Kuwaiti workers enjoy their time at work, marking the highest enjoyment rate in the MENA region. This starkly contrasts with Lebanon, where a mere 6 percent of employees report workplace enjoyment, positioning Lebanon at the opposite end of the spectrum.Despite these favorable indicators of workplace atmosphere in Kuwait, there's an underlying restlessness among the workforce, with 45 percent of Kuwaiti respondents actively looking for new job opportunities. This suggests that factors beyond immediate emotional well-being, perhaps related to career advancement or job security, influence employee satisfaction.
Kuwait's standings in job engagement and satisfaction with future career prospects are also noteworthy. The country ranks sixth for employee engagement and fifth for satisfaction with career prospects in the region, according to the survey's findings. These rankings indicate a relatively positive outlook among Kuwaiti employees towards their jobs and future in the workplace.
On a global scale, the survey identifies Finland, Denmark, Iceland, the Netherlands, and Sweden as the top five countries for workplace satisfaction, highlighting a significant disparity in work environments around the world. Conversely, the global data reveals that 34 percent of workers feel their workplace is evolving, yet a concerning 58 percent consider themselves struggling, and about 8 percent report suffering in their job environments.
Regionally, the MENA results draw attention to the significant daily pressures faced by employees, with the region reporting the second-lowest percentage in job engagement. This points to a generally challenging work environment across the MENA countries, aside from the brighter spots like Kuwait.
This comprehensive study by Gallup underlines the complex dynamics of workplace environments globally, pointing to both challenges and areas of positive engagement across different regions. The insights from the "The State of the Global Workplace for 2024" survey serve as a valuable resource for understanding and improving employee well-being and job satisfaction around the world.
