This Viral Korean Tissue Bread With 1,000 Layers Is Now Available At Dubai Bakery
Breads come in various shapes and sizes, with different textures and flavours. So, what made one particular type of loaf – Korean tissue bread – break the internet? And more importantly, where can we get some?
Korean tissue bread, as the name suggests, is made of many layers of thin dough. Each slice resembles a torn piece of paper or a handkerchief. When it went viral on social media earlier this year, it was primarily available in South Korea and was compared to the thin Indian flatbread called rumali roti.
The Spot
However, you don't need a plane ticket to get your hands on some. You can find it right here in Dubai at Yamanote Atelier, a popular bakery. Maryam Thani, Marketing Coordinator at the café and bakery, says: "Tissue bread is a popular item in Japan and Korea, and as a Japanese bakery, we felt it was the right time to introduce it to the UAE."
The bread is freshly made at the brand's flagship store in Al Ferdous and sold across its Dubai and Abu Dhabi branches. At the café, you'll find your tissue bread comes with three dips: honey butter, chocolate sauce, and strawberry jam. It's causing quite a stir since tearing into the loaf makes for such a photogenic moment.
Unique Baking Process
This bread is unique and so is its baking process. As per representatives from the baker, the original bread, that requires great level of care and precision, was originally inspired by the Truffle Bakery in Hannam-dong, Seoul. Tapas magazine explains that it's "sculpted from delicate layers of bread meticulously stacked to form a single loaf."
The Cost
Despite its skyrocketing popularity, the cost of the bread is not exorbitant. Each of the breads cost Dh29 and the dips that come with it costs Dh12 each.
