MICHELIN Guide Launches In Doha, Elevating Gastronomy Standards
Selecting a restaurant has become much easier in Doha as The MICHELIN Guide's debut in Qatar, with its first guide to Doha, marks a significant milestone, celebrating 33 restaurants that showcase the city's diverse culinary landscape.
Announced at an event at Katara Hall, Raffles Doha, this launch underscores the vibrant dining scene and the international cuisines available in Doha, from luxurious fine dining to street food gems.

The guide's inspectors maintain a uniform assessment approach worldwide, evaluating restaurants on five key criteria: ingredient quality, cooking technique mastery, flavor harmony, chef's personality expression through cuisine, and consistency across the menu and over time. This rigorous evaluation process ensures that every establishment, regardless of its style, concept, or location, is judged by the same high standards.
First-Time MICHELIN Stars and Bib Gourmand Awards
Among the selected restaurants, two distinguished themselves to earn their first One MICHELIN Star. Jamavar, a sibling of the London establishment, captivates with its array of Indian dishes, meticulously crafted by head chef Debdash Balaga. Specialties like the Laal Maas, a lamb shank that undergoes an 8-hour slow-cooking process, showcase the depth of flavor and skill involved.
IDAM by Alain Ducasse blends the renowned chef's signature style with Qatari influences, as Chef Fabrice Rosso introduces local spices and ingredients, adding a unique twist to the dining experience.
The Bib Gourmand distinction, named after Michelin Man's official name, Bibendum, recognizes restaurants that offer excellent cooking at good value. Four establishments in Doha received this accolade: Isaan, known for its Thai and regional specialties; Jiwan, which offers modern twists on Qatari dishes; Argan, a haven for authentic Moroccan cuisine; and Hoppers, which brings Sri Lankan and South Indian flavors to Doha, mirroring the success of its London counterpart.
The MICHELIN Guide also honored individuals and teams who have made outstanding contributions to the hospitality sector with its Special Awards. The Young Chef Award, backed by Place Vendôme Qatar, was bestowed upon Sirijan Saelee of Isaan for his exceptional leadership in managing a large restaurant with diverse culinary techniques.
Paulo Bastos and his team at Morimoto received the Service Award for their impeccable attention to detail, knowledge, and the overall dining experience they provide. Lastly, Robi Ratan from IDAM by Alain Ducasse was recognized for his Exceptional Cocktails, creating innovative mocktail pairings that complement the gastronomic journey.
This inaugural selection of the MICHELIN Guide in Doha not only celebrates exceptional culinary talent and diverse dining options but also contributes to placing Doha on the global culinary map. The Guide's commitment to recognizing quality across a spectrum of restaurants highlights the city's dynamic and evolving dining scene.
