Emirati Publishers Showcase Children's Stories On Global Stage At Bologna Fair

The Emirates Publishers Association (EPA) recently wrapped up its participation in the 2025 Bologna Children’s Book Fair, held in Bologna, Italy. This event, spanning from 31st March to 3rd April, gathered prominent literary and artistic figures worldwide. The EPA's involvement underscores its commitment to bolstering the Emirati publishing industry and enhancing its global presence.

Rashid Al Kous, Executive Director of the EPA, highlighted the significance of this event. He stated that the fair offers a crucial platform for showcasing Emirati children's literature and forming strategic partnerships. These collaborations aim to sustain publishing efforts and broaden the international reach of Emirati stories.

Emirati Publishers Present at Bologna Fair

The EPA pavilion showcased notable Emirati publishers specialising in children's and young adult literature. Ajyal Publishing and Distribution, represented by Dr. Abdulla AlSharhan, is known for interactive stories promoting critical thinking. Kiwi Stories Publishing and Distribution, led by Sahar Naja, crafts emotionally engaging tales that enrich young minds.

Dr. Abdulla AlSharhan remarked on the importance of participating in such prestigious events. He noted that these platforms empower Emirati publishers by providing access to global markets and keeping them abreast of developments in children's book publishing. This aligns with the UAE's vision of supporting culture and creativity.

Participating publishers stressed the value of attending international fairs like Bologna's. They praised the EPA's dedication to enabling Emirati publishers' participation in these specialised events. Such fairs offer opportunities to showcase creativity and expertise to a broad audience while exploring new market trends.

The event also featured graduates from the Sharjah Publishing Sustainability Fund (Onshur). Dalal Hussain Al Jaberi of Hzaya focuses on making children protagonists in their stories while celebrating cultural diversity. Fatema Hussain AlHammadi of Sohub Publishing & Distribution specialises in educational books for People of Determination.

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair serves as a premier venue for exploring global trends in children's literature. It provides Emirati publishers with opportunities to meet literary agents and industry professionals, fostering discussions on exporting content internationally.

Publishers expressed pride in representing UAE's cultural landscape at this international gathering. They are eager to bring back insights to further advance their industry. The fair is seen as a strategic platform for forming partnerships and accessing new markets.
