Dubai Mallathon Kicks Off: Transforming Malls into Fitness Hubs

The day is here. In an ambitious move to promote health and fitness within the community, Dubai is launching the Mallathon under the guidance of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.

This citywide initiative transforms shopping malls into venues for walking and running, providing a comfortable, air-conditioned environment for physical activities. Starting today (Friday) and running throughout August from 7 to 10 am, the Mallathon aligns with the Year of Community campaign, and the Dubai Social and Quality of Life Strategies, aiming to encourage a more active lifestyle among Dubai's residents and visitors.

Dubai Mallathon Starts Tomorrow for Community Fitness

The initiative is a collaborative effort sponsored by the Ministry of Defence and organised with the Dubai Sports Council, featuring activities across nine prominent malls. These include Dubai Mall, Dubai Hills Mall, Mall of the Emirates, City Centre Deira, and others, totalling over 10 kilometres of indoor tracks.

The Mallathon is not just about providing spaces for physical activity; it's an engaging experience with a dynamic calendar of events planned. Participants can look forward to sports challenges, community competitions, and activities designed to make fitness fun and accessible for people of all ages and interests.

During the weekends, the malls will host events where participants can win over 40 iPhones, 10 tablets, shopping vouchers, and more, creating a festive atmosphere that encourages wider community engagement.

The initiative has garnered support from several public and private partners, including wellness services from Mai Dubai, the UAE Sports For All Federation, Al Tadawi Speciality Hospital, and the Dubai Cooperative Society.

Additionally, Uber and Careem are offering exclusive discounts for those commuting to the event, further facilitating community participation. The Mallathon also emphasises wellness by providing free health check-ups, nutritional consultations, and access to healthy food options at select restaurants and retail outlets.

"The Mallathon brings dedicated tracks to some of Dubai's most iconic malls, encouraging participants to embrace a fit lifestyle in a fun, accessible setting. From valuable prizes to dedicated activities for senior citizens, this initiative reflects our leadership's commitment to ensuring that every member of society enjoys a high quality of life and stays actively engaged," said Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council.

A notable part of the Mallathon is the 'Walking for Better Health' initiative, aimed specifically at senior citizens and residents. Hosted by the Community Development Authority in collaboration with participating malls, it underscores the importance of keeping this demographic physically active in a safe and engaging environment. This initiative not only aims to boost health and wellbeing but also highlights the valuable contribution of senior citizens to the community.

The Ministry of Defence expressed its support for the Mallathon, stating, "We adopt a holistic approach to building a cohesive, resilient society, recognising physical activity as vital to individual and collective wellbeing. Our participation in this initiative reflects our leadership's vision to embed sport as a cornerstone of daily life and community identity."
