Dubai Unveils Air Quality Monitoring Station In Jebel Ali, Bolstering Environmental Sustainability
In a significant step towards enhancing the quality of life and sustainability in Dubai, the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation has inaugurated the first fixed air quality monitoring station in the Jebel area. This development aligns with the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033 and commemorates World Environment Day, underlining the commitment of Dubai's leadership to adopt projects that contribute to the well-being of its residents and the sustainability of its environment.
The launch event saw the presence of officials including Abdulla bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, Abdulla Al Hashmi, COO of Parks and Zones, DP World GCC, and Nasser Al Neyadi, CEO of the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC). The attendees underscored the strategic importance of this initiative, which is in line with the vision of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.

Nasser Al Neyadi highlighted the deployment of smart solutions and innovative technologies as pivotal in driving sustainable development. This approach aims to foster economic growth while ensuring the protection of the environment and the sustainability of natural resources. The air quality monitoring station, spanning 16 square metres and costing approximately Dh2 million, is equipped with 11 sensors capable of measuring 101 types of air pollutants, illustrating the commitment to environmental sustainability.
Located in Jebel Ali, the station's strategic placement is aimed at enhancing air quality across Dubai, particularly benefiting areas under the corporation's oversight. This initiative is expected to play a vital role in ensuring a clean, healthy business environment through continuous air monitoring and assessment.
"This initiative underscores the essential role of the environment in our future development strategies, aligning with the emirate's efforts to achieve environmental sustainability and provide a healthy and sustainable environment for residents and expatriates," Al Neyadi remarked, emphasizing Dubai's dedication to balancing economic development with environmental conservation.
Abdulla Belhoul, CEO of the Department of Planning and Development (Trakhees), expressed that the air quality monitoring facility is a significant leap towards protecting the environment and public health. By continuously monitoring air quality and providing data, the station supports sustainable development and informs decisions aimed at enhancing air quality for a safer and healthier environment.
The station’s advanced design, featuring a steel frame and insulated panels, is equipped with the latest devices for continuous air pollutant analysis. A sophisticated data collection and transmission system links the facility to a specialized central office for data processing and report generation, furthering its role in environmental protection and policy development.
Belhoul elaborated on the supportive role of the station in environmental policy-making, stating, "The station provides precise data and periodic reports essential for implementing and developing local and national environmental policies." This includes crafting legislation and measures to maintain air quality, assessing the environmental impact of companies and industries, ensuring compliance with environmental standards, and mitigating harmful effects.
With the establishment of the Jebel Ali air quality monitoring station, Dubai takes a proactive step towards achieving its quality of life and environmental sustainability goals. This initiative not only underscores the emirate's commitment to a healthier, more sustainable environment for its residents and expatriates but also solidifies its position as a global leader in sustainable development and environmental conservation.
