This Is How DEWA Is Cutting Down On Water Losses Across Dubai
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has successfully installed smart water metres across Dubai, meeting the increasing demand for water services. By early June 2024, over one million smart metres adhering to top international standards were in place.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, highlighted DEWA's commitment to advancing its smart grid and metre infrastructure. This development aims to boost operational efficiency and manage facilities using Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies.

This technology helps customers detect and fix leaks quickly, reducing waste and conserving natural resources. It also supports net zero goals and sustainable development while ensuring stakeholder satisfaction.
"DEWA's investment in innovative water sector solutions has cut water losses from 7.06% in early 2018 to 4.6% by the end of 2023," said Al Tayer. "This saved 12.5 billion gallons of water, worth Dh451.3 million." He stressed the importance of smart metres as a key component of the smart grid.
The Smart Metres Analysis and Diagnosis Centre at DEWA monitors these metres remotely every 15 minutes. This system ensures continuous oversight and efficient management of water resources.
Al Tayer added, "We handle smart metre data through a secure, integrated, resilient, and fully automated infrastructure." Automating metre readings allows customers to access real-time consumption data, enabling them to manage their usage proactively.
DEWA's efforts in implementing these advanced systems have not only enhanced operational efficiency but also contributed significantly to water conservation in Dubai.
