Dubai Culture Introduces International Art Fairs Grant To Support Local Galleries And Artists

The Dubai Culture and Arts Authority has launched the International Art Fairs Grant. This initiative provides financial aid to galleries in Dubai that participate in art fairs abroad. It is part of the Dubai Cultural Grant, aiming to empower Emirati artists by expanding their global reach and enhancing their international presence.

Managed by the Art Dubai Group, this grant highlights the government's commitment to promoting Dubai's vibrant art scene worldwide. It offers local artists exposure and access to new opportunities, strengthening the cultural and creative industries. The initiative positions Dubai as a leading global hub for the creative economy.

New Grant Supports Dubai s Art Galleries

The grant aims to boost both emerging and established UAE-based and Emirati artists. By supporting these artists, Dubai Culture seeks to enhance the city's role as the region's art capital. The initiative also encourages galleries and artists to establish a permanent presence in Dubai, fostering growth in the city's creative economy.

Eligible galleries must have a full-time presence in Dubai and represent Emirati artists or those who have lived in the UAE for at least three years. They should also regularly showcase their programmes outside their gallery space through reputable institutions or art fairs. These galleries can apply for up to 50% support for their booth at international art fairs, provided it focuses on Emirati or UAE-based artists.

Dr Saeed Mubarak bin Kharbash, CEO of the Arts, Design and Literature Sector at Dubai Culture, emphasised the grant's importance: "Dubai’s position as a global art hub is largely due to its vibrant art scene and thriving galleries. Through this grant, we aim to raise the international profiles of our galleries and artists, contributing to the global discourse on contemporary art and promoting Dubai as a centre for artistic excellence."

William Lawrie from Lawrie Shabibi Gallery praised this initiative: "This grant is a significant step forward for Dubai’s art community, supporting our participation in international art fairs and helping us showcase our artists globally. It strengthens Dubai’s position in the dynamic, ever-evolving cultural landscape."

This grant is part of broader efforts to support the local art community. It ensures that Dubai remains a key player in the global art landscape by fostering creativity and innovation within the arts sector. The initiative creates positive economic impacts across complementary sectors by driving growth in the city's creative economy.
