Disneyland Paris Unveils Plans For First-Ever Lion King Attraction And Themed Area By 2026

Disneyland Paris shared thrilling updates about upcoming attractions during the Horizons: Disney Experience Showcase on August 10. The event, part of The Ultimate Disney Fan Event held in Anaheim, CA from August 9 to August 11, 2024, revealed plans for a new immersive area inspired by The Lion King. This attraction will debut after the opening of World of Frozen at Disney Adventure World in 2026.

Josh D'Amaro, Chairman of Disney Experiences, announced the creation of an all-new area dedicated to The Lion King at Disneyland Paris. This area will transport guests to the African savanna and immerse them in the adventures of Simba, Timon, Pumbaa, and other beloved characters. The attraction will feature Pride Rock and a water adventure that follows Simba's journey from cub to king.

The Lion King Immersive Area

Natacha Rafalski, Présidente of Disneyland Paris, expressed excitement about this new addition. She stated, "We are very excited and proud to be unveiling the next immersive area of Disney Adventure World." Rafalski highlighted that this project is part of a larger transformation at Disneyland Paris, which includes Worlds of Pixar and Marvel Avengers Campus.

Michel Den Dulk, Portfolio Creative Director at Walt Disney Imagineering Paris, shared his enthusiasm: "From the moment the sun rose on the big screen in theaters all around the world, audiences were captivated by the story of The Lion King." He emphasized that their goal is to translate the film's emotional core into this new attraction.

World of Frozen and Nighttime Show

Before The Lion King area opens, guests can look forward to several new experiences at Disney Adventure World. These include Adventure Way promenade, Raiponce Tangled Spin family attraction, The Regal View Restaurant & Lounge with views over Adventure Bay, and the highly anticipated Frozen-themed land opening in 2026.

The Kingdom of Arendelle will offer an unforgettable journey with Anna and Elsa in Frozen Ever After. Guests can also enjoy immersive shopping and dining experiences and meet Anna and Elsa during royal encounters. Additionally, a breathtaking nighttime show will debut on Adventure Bay's lake in 2026.

This nighttime show will feature water screens, fountains, special effects, and drone choreography. Developed with France-based Official Technology Provider Dronisos, it will use water-drones for a unique spectacle. These additions will nearly double the park's footprint as it ushers in a new era with fresh creative vision.

New Nighttime Spectacular at Disneyland Park

Starting January 2025, Disneyland Park will introduce an all-new nighttime spectacular featuring iconic songs and projections onto Sleeping Beauty Castle. This show promises to push technical boundaries set by previous shows like Disney Dreams! and Disney Illuminations.

Main Street U.S.A. will also serve as a backdrop for this show for the first time. Dana Harrel, Executive Entertainment Director at Disneyland Paris said: "For this new show we reimagined the way of telling stories with our Castle as the main attraction." This experience aims to immerse guests into their favorite stories like never before.

Resort-Wide Transformation

These projects are part of a broader development plan aimed at innovation and excellence. Earlier this year, Disneyland Paris unveiled plans for transforming its hotels. After reopening Disney Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel in 2021 and unveiling Disneyland Hotel in 2024, they plan to reimagine all Disney Davy Crockett Ranch bungalows soon.

Disney Village is also undergoing major changes to enhance its offerings. New restaurants and shops will be added to create a modern atmosphere. Natacha Rafalski noted that these updates reflect their commitment to reinventing guest experiences within the resort.

The ongoing transformation aims to strengthen Disneyland Paris' position as a tourism leader in Europe while maintaining its pioneering status in theme parks worldwide.
