Zayed International Airport Hosts Art Exhibition By Sheikha Alyazia Bint Nahyan
Zayed International Airport has unveiled an exceptional art exhibition, featuring two distinguished series titled "Safe Trip" and "I Met a Traveler from an Antique Land." These series, now part of the airport's art collection, were donated by Sheikha Fakhra bint Diab bin Saif Al Nahyan and were presented in a ceremony attended by the artist herself, Sheikha Alyazia bint Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan.
The presentation ceremony was highlighted by the awarding of a Certificate of Appreciation to Sheikha Alyazia, represented by Sheikha Fakhra, by Elena Sorlini, Managing Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports. The event, which also saw the presence of Sherine Al-Maskari, Director of Protocol, commenced with a warm welcome address and included a guided tour of the new terminal at Zayed International Airport.
The "Safe Trip" collection draws inspiration from iconic international paintings used in airline advertising, to which Sheikha Alyazia has added her own artistic interpretations. This series stands out as an illustrative journey that merges art with the essence of travel, offering a unique perspective on the integration of different artistic expressions.
This collection had the privilege of being showcased at a solo exhibition at Casa Arabe in Madrid, Spain, highlighting its global appeal and the cross-cultural dialogue it instigates.
Simultaneously, the "Mishmash" series presents an innovative approach to numismatics, incorporating symbols that span from ancient Phoenician and Islamic cultures to modern Emirati representations. The series explores the concept of identity through the lens of coin redesign, maintaining authenticity while embracing a collective cultural narrative.
The artistry extends to marble works, with designs echoing the natural forms of cave entrances and hidden treasures, symbolized by a mix of ancient eastern coins buried beneath the surface. This artistic metaphor invites viewers to look beyond the obvious and discover the rich heritage encapsulated within.
The "I Met a Traveler from an Antique Land" exhibition was previously displayed at the PI Artworks Gallery in London, further attesting to the international recognition of Sheikha Alyazia's work.
Both collections were also part of the "Contemporary Inscriptions" exhibition at Bayt Al Sinnari in Cairo, affiliated with the Library of Alexandria, bridging historical culture with modern artistic expression.
Through these exhibitions and the permanent display at Zayed International Airport's new terminal, Sheikha Alyazia bint Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan's artwork not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the space but also enriches the cultural experience of travelers, offering them a moment of artistic contemplation amidst their journeys.
