Almadinah Book Fair Showcases Cultural Vision To Boost Saudi Publishing Industry
The fourth Almadinah Book Fair commenced recently in Madinah Region, highlighting the city's cultural importance. The Ministry of Culture aims to make books central to knowledge and the creative economy. Organised by the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission under the "Book Fairs in Saudi Arabia" initiative, it features over 300 local and international publishers. Cultural institutions and government bodies also participate, offering unique initiatives.
Almadinah Book Fair is more than a traditional book event; it creates a vibrant cultural atmosphere that integrates social and educational aspects. A dedicated children's area includes six educational corners, storytelling sessions, and theatrical performances. Workshops for youth cover creative writing, cooking, and handicrafts as part of the Saudi Year of Handicrafts initiative.

Bassam Albassam, General Manager of Publishing at the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission, stated that the fair is crucial for developing Saudi Arabia's publishing ecosystem. He emphasised its role as a strategic platform for fostering cultural partnerships. The fair empowers Saudi authors to reach broader audiences through programs supporting both print and digital publishing.
The commission's publishing policy focuses on diversity and openness. It operates within a flexible regulatory framework that enhances cultural product quality, encourages translation, and supports independent creative initiatives. This approach strengthens Saudi books' presence in the creative economy.
Madinah's historical ties to writing and knowledge make it an ideal location for the fair. As one of the first Islamic cities to establish schools and preserve manuscripts, Madinah has nurtured scholars who enriched Islamic libraries. Today, it remains a vibrant hub of knowledge with diverse significance.
The fair offers an integrated program of activities such as workshops, seminars, intellectual dialogues, literary evenings, book signings, cultural discussions, literary critique sessions, interactive youth activities, and art exhibitions. These events transform visits into celebrations of knowledge.
In line with Saudi Vision 2030 objectives, the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission aims to build a sustainable national publishing industry. This involves empowerment, rights exchange, content marketing, and promoting Saudi publications globally. Almadinah Book Fair is a key milestone in this long-term project.
The fair's location in Madinah adds to its uniqueness due to its rich historical connections to writing. The city was among the first Islamic metropolises to compile Quranic texts and nurture scholars who significantly enriched Islamic libraries over time.
Almadinah Book Fair extends beyond printed books by creating an environment where books intersect with art, education, and society. It features interactive youth activities alongside book signing events and accompanying art exhibitions.
This event not only reinforces Madinah's status as a revered religious site but also celebrates its role as a lively hub of knowledge brimming with significance and diversity.
