Discover Local Flavours: Liwa International Festival 2024 Introduces Farmers' Market Experience
The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA) has introduced its first Farmers’ Market at the Liwa International Festival – Moreeb Dune 2024. This initiative aims to bolster local farming, improve food security, and promote sustainable agriculture. The festival runs from December 13, 2024, until January 4, 2025 in Al Dhafra's Moreeb Dune area.
ADAFSA is dedicated to aiding farmers throughout Abu Dhabi by offering marketing platforms that boost their economic gains and operational sustainability. The market allows farmers to sell fresh produce directly to consumers, cutting out middlemen. This effort highlights the collaboration between government and community entities to strengthen the agricultural sector's role in food security and sustainable growth.

The Farmers’ Market features a variety of locally grown products, such as fresh vegetables, fruits, natural honey, and whole lamb carcasses. It provides a platform for farmers to engage with consumers, share their success stories, and demonstrate their commitment to sustainable agriculture. This direct interaction helps meet the public's demand for high-quality local food.
Organising the market during the Liwa International Festival leverages the event’s popularity and attracts a large audience enjoying winter festivities, camping, and heritage sports. ADAFSA emphasises this strategic timing as it enhances visibility for local produce while supporting farmers' economic interests.
Farmers’ Markets by ADAFSA across various regions play a crucial role in enhancing food security by supporting local production and reducing dependency on imports. These markets also promote sustainable farming practices and encourage using modern technologies to improve product quality and resource efficiency.
The Authority invites the public to visit the Farmers’ Market for a wide range of fresh produce at competitive prices. By participating, visitors can support local farmers directly, contribute to food security, and learn about farmers' inspiring success stories through meaningful interactions.
This initiative underscores ADAFSA's ongoing commitment to fostering agricultural sustainability in Abu Dhabi. By providing platforms like these markets, they aim to ensure that local farming remains a vital component of the region's food supply chain.
