Abu Dhabi's National Aquarium Hosts Magnificent Underwater Iftar
In a captivating blend of tradition and marine wonder, The National Aquarium in Abu Dhabi has set a new standard for iftar experiences. On April 3, 2024, amidst the serene backdrop of Ramadan, the aquarium unveiled an underwater iftar that not only mesmerised its attendees but also marked the arrival of its newest and highly unique inhabitants, two African Manatees. This event symbolises a momentous occasion, as it represents the first instance these rare sea cows will grace the Middle East with their presence.
The underwater iftar took place under the expansive canopy of the region's longest underwater tunnel, providing guests with a breathtaking view of the vibrant aquatic life that calls the aquarium home. The National Aquarium, known as the largest in the Middle East, has once again proven its commitment to offering unparalleled experiences, this time incorporating the holy month's spirit into its innovative offerings.
With over 46,000 marine and terrestrial creatures under its care, the aquarium's addition of the African Manatees is a significant achievement. Paul Hamilton, the general manager of The National Aquarium, expressed his excitement about the event, highlighting the rarity of hosting such unique species. He noted, "What you are seeing here is a rare sight. The two male manatees were transferred from an aquarium in Seoul," emphasizing the exclusivity of this attraction. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to observe these majestic creatures up close and learn about them from the knowledgeable on-site experts starting from Eid Al Fitr.
The timing of this event coincides with the anticipation of Eid Al-Fitr, which is poised to be exceptionally memorable this year for the residents of the United Arab Emirates. With the festival of Eid Al-Fitr approaching, the announcement of a potential nine-day holiday, from April 8 to April 14, 2024, adds to the festive spirit, offering residents an extended period of celebration and leisure.
