Tiger Woods ‘Much Better’ Following Flu-Like Symptoms at Genesis Invitational

Tiger Woods, the renowned 15-time major champion, experienced a setback at the Genesis Invitational in California, withdrawing due to flu-like symptoms. The 48-year-old golfer, who also serves as the tournament host, had completed his opening round at the Riviera Country Club with a score of one-over par. However, his condition deteriorated, leading to his withdrawal after playing just six holes on the following day.

Rob McNamara, executive vice president of TGR Ventures, provided insights into Woods' health issues. According to McNamara, Woods began exhibiting flu-like symptoms on Thursday night, including a fever and dizziness, which were exacerbated by physical exertion during the game. Medical professionals have suggested that dehydration coupled with flu symptoms necessitated treatment with an IV bag. Fortunately, Woods is on the mend and expected to recover fully soon.

Tiger Woods Recovers After Flu Scare

Woods' health concerns come in the wake of his ongoing recovery from ankle fusion surgery performed in April of the previous year. This surgery was a significant factor in his decision to withdraw from the Masters during its third round. Woods made a return to competitive golf at the Hero World Challenge in December, marking his first appearance since the surgery.

Despite starting strong with a birdie on the first hole during Friday's round, Woods faced challenges with back-to-back bogeys and ultimately decided to withdraw after completing six holes. His early departure was facilitated by a rules official who escorted him back to the locker room.

In related news from The Genesis Invitational, Jordan Spieth faced disqualification for signing an incorrect scorecard. The PGA Tour confirmed via a statement on X that Spieth had inaccurately recorded a score on No. 4, leading to his disqualification from the tournament.

As the tournament progresses without Woods and Spieth, Patrick Cantlay has emerged as the frontrunner, boasting a five-shot lead at 13 under. Rory McIlroy remains in contention after bouncing back from an initial 74 with a flawless 66, aiming to surpass the cut and continue competing over the weekend.
