Tiger Woods Confirms Plans For The Open Return After Missing Cut
Tiger Woods hinted at participating in The Open next year after a disappointing final round at the 2024 event at Royal Troon. His six-over performance ensured he missed the cut. Woods needed a significant improvement on Friday after an eight-over 79 on Thursday but struggled again, ending his major season early.
Woods shot a 77 to finish 14 over par, with the projected cut line at four over. He had previously finished 60th at the Masters and failed to make the weekend at both the U.S. Open and the PGA Championship. Reflecting on his physical challenges, Woods shared his thoughts with reporters.

"I was just fighting it pretty much all day," Woods said. "I never really hit it close enough to make birdies and consequently made a lot of bogeys." He expressed his love for playing major championships but wished he was more physically prepared. "Obviously it tests you mentally, physically, emotionally, and I just wasn't as sharp as I needed to be," he added.
Woods hoped to find his form during the tournament but admitted it never happened. "I was hoping that I would find it somehow, but just never did. Consequently, my results and scores were pretty high," he concluded.
Despite targeting one event per month in 2024, Woods will not compete again until December's Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, an event he hosts. However, he plans to return for the 153rd Open next year at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland.
"As a past champion, I'm exempt until I'm 60," Woods said. "I've enjoyed the challenges that Scotland brings; I've missed playing Troon." He reminisced about his good memories there and expressed a desire to perform better next time.
The crowd's appreciation for Woods was evident throughout the event. The Open's official Twitter account shared a video captioned: "Tiger soaks in appreciation from the crowd. An all-time great."
