Shane Lowry Overcomes Double-Bogey To Lead At The Open
Shane Lowry expressed his calm and composed state after overcoming a double-bogey to take the clubhouse lead on the second day of The Open. Starting at five under par, just one shot behind leader Daniel Brown, Lowry birdied the first, fourth, and eighth holes to reach seven under at the turn.
However, trouble struck on the notorious par-four 11th hole. A stray tee shot into the rough was followed by a hook into a gorse bush, resulting in a double-bogey. This setback brought him back to par for the day. Despite this, Lowry maintained his composure in challenging windy conditions.

He managed four successive pars before birdying two of the final three holes. The second birdie came from a beautiful 20-foot putt. Reflecting on his performance, Lowry said he was thrilled with how he responded to the setback and positioned himself well for the tournament.
"I was in control of my ball and did all the right things for a lot of the round," Lowry told reporters. "Then when I got in a bit of trouble, I feel like I really finished the round well. I'm pretty happy with the day."
Lowry emphasised his goal for the next rounds: "To be leading this tournament after two days; it's why you come here, it's why we're here. The job tomorrow as well is to try to put myself in a position to win this tournament on Sunday, and that's what I'll try and do."
Comfort Zone and Performance
The 2019 champion noted that he felt quite calm and composed over the past couple of days. "I've felt really in my comfort zone," he said. "To shoot in the 60s is very good any day on this course, even when the conditions aren't this bad. I'm very happy."
