Tommy Fleetwood Sets Sights On The Open Victory Amidst Reflections On Previous Challenges

Tommy Fleetwood is determined to overcome his past disappointments in major tournaments as he aims for victory at The Open. Despite never having secured a major win, Fleetwood has consistently performed well, finishing in the top five across all four major events. Notably, he was runner-up at The Open in 2019 and the U.S. Open in 2018.Fleetwood's recent performance includes a T3 finish at The Masters earlier this year. As he prepares for Royal Troon on Thursday, he emphasises the importance of not dwelling on past frustrations. "I try not to dwell on it too much," he said. "I get frustrated like anybody else. I get down on myself like anybody else."Fleetwood is among four golfers who have finished inside the top 10 at each of the last two editions of The Open, alongside Rory McIlroy, Cameron Young, and last year's champion Brian Harman. However, despite his consistent performance, Fleetwood has yet to secure a win on the PGA Tour.He acknowledges that his current position in the game does not reflect where he believes he can be. "I don't win anywhere near as much as I would like," Fleetwood admitted. "I'm probably not in a position in the game where I want to be, even though I'm doing perfectly well."Fleetwood tries to concentrate on what he needs to do to achieve his goals rather than letting frustration take over. "I try to focus on the positives and what I need to do to actually get to where I want to be or contend in tournaments and win tournaments," he explained.Despite his frustrations, Fleetwood remains optimistic about his potential. He recognises that even when playing well, there are always aspects of his game that could be improved. "Even when you play well, you come off frustrated because you might have missed a putt or you might have finished a shot or two behind where you thought you could," he noted.Fleetwood's determination and focus are evident as he prepares for The Open. His practice sessions are complete, and he feels ready for the challenge ahead.
