Charlie Woods' Bid For Cognizant Classic Falls Short After Tough Round

In a recent attempt to qualify for the upcoming Cognizant Classic, Charlie Woods, the 15-year-old son of golf legend Tiger Woods, faced a challenging round at the Lost Lake Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Florida. Despite his efforts, Charlie concluded the day with a score of 16-over-par, falling short of advancing to the next stage of qualification. The pre-qualifier event held on Thursday is one of four sites setting the stage for players aiming to secure their spot in the PGA Tour event scheduled from February 29 to March 3 at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens.

Charlie Woods embarked on his round at 7:39 am local time, accompanied by his mother, Elin Nordegren. Competing alongside Olin Browne Junior, Woods faced difficulties on the par-70 course. Notably, after starting with a par on the first hole, he encountered significant setbacks including a double-bogey seven on the fifth and a particularly damaging 12 on the seventh hole. Despite these challenges, Woods managed to secure 11 pars throughout his round, demonstrating resilience by maintaining par from the eighth to the 13th holes and again on the final two holes, ultimately finishing with an 86.

Charlie Woods Misses Cognizant Qualification

Charlie Woods is no stranger to competitive golf, having participated in the last four editions of the PNC Championship alongside his father, Tiger Woods. Unfortunately, Tiger had to withdraw from last week's Genesis Invitational due to illness. Additionally, Charlie competed in last year's Notah Begay III Junior Golf National Championship with Tiger as his caddie, where he finished tied for 17th in the boys 14-15 division.

The journey towards qualifying for prestigious events like the Cognizant Classic is arduous and highly competitive. Approximately 25 players and ties from Thursday's pre-qualifier will advance to Monday's full qualifier on February 26. From there, only four players will earn their places in the Cognizant Classic. Despite not making it into the top five at Lost Lake and thus not advancing further in this qualification process, Charlie Woods's participation underscores his growing experience and dedication to the sport.

As Charlie continues to develop his skills and compete in various tournaments, his journey remains a testament to his commitment to golf. While this round may not have ended as hoped, it represents another step in his evolving career. With a supportive family by his side and a clear talent for the game, Charlie Woods is undoubtedly a young golfer to watch in the coming years.
