DeChambeau Eyes The Open Championship Glory At Royal Troon

Bryson DeChambeau believes his victory at the 2024 U.S. Open demonstrates his potential to secure more major titles as he gears up for The Open Championship. He capitalised on Rory McIlroy's late stumble at Pinehurst, clinching the win by a single stroke. This marked his second major triumph, following his 2020 U.S. Open win, and he also secured a runner-up finish at the PGA Championship and a top-10 spot at The Masters this year.

Despite only finishing inside the top 30 once in six attempts at The Open - in 2022 - DeChambeau is determined to improve his record at Royal Troon this week, buoyed by his recent success. Reflecting on his achievements, DeChambeau stated, "2020 [U.S. Open] was a bit of me showing that I could do it. It's always difficult to get that first major win. The second one [2024] was more about cementing my own comfort levels of knowing I can do it again and again. That's really cool."

He added, "I can give myself more runs at majors... I've obviously played well at a lot of them this year." His confidence is evident as he prepares for The Open Championship.

Last year, DeChambeau finished tied in 60th place at The Open, marking his worst performance at the major. However, he enters this year's tournament in strong form and is optimistic about his chances. "If I play well this week, I think I can give myself a good chance obviously," he said.

DeChambeau emphasised the importance of consistency in his game: "I'm very confident, but it all depends on if I'm striking it well. I can come in here with the most confidence, off of a major championship win, but really what matters if I can continue to drive the ball as well as I have and continue to strike my irons the way I know I can and putt like I can."

Maintaining Momentum

If DeChambeau maintains his current form and consistency, he believes he has a strong chance of contending for the trophy. "If I do those things well, I'll give myself a good chance," he noted. "I know how to get the job done; it's just a matter of whether I'm as consistent as what I was at the U.S. Open."

DeChambeau's recent performances have bolstered his confidence as he aims for another major title. His focus remains on maintaining his form and executing his game plan effectively throughout the tournament.
