XenData Launches Media Portal For Easy Access To LTO And Cloud Archives
XenData, a global provider of professional data storage solutions, has recently announced the launch of Media Portal, a new software addition to its LTO and public cloud archive solutions. This innovative software introduces a web interface that enables users to effortlessly browse their archived file system. It allows for the viewing of previews of archived video and image files and facilitates the downloading of selected content. This development enhances the existing methods of accessing a XenData archive, which already includes local network access and object storage via an S3 interface.
The Media Portal for LTO archives is designed to integrate seamlessly with both new and existing XenData on-premises LTO archive systems. Compatible with systems equipped with robotic LTO libraries and external LTO drives, the software generates previews for video and image files as they are written to the system. These previews are then stored on the archive's managed disk volume, allowing authorized users to view them through the Media Portal web interface. Users can select and download the files they need directly from the portal. Furthermore, XenData's LTO archives support an unlimited number of externalized tape cartridges, enabling users to establish a deep archive with limitless capacity. The Media Portal uniquely offers previews of all video and image content stored 'on the shelf', including crucial cartridge barcode information to facilitate easy retrieval of content from LTO cartridges.

Additionally, the Media Portal for Cloud operates on either a physical or virtual Windows machine and features a gateway to various public clouds such as AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage, and Wasabi object storage. It showcases previews of all video and image files transferred via the gateway, even those stored on inaccessible storage tiers like AWS Glacier and Azure Archive Tier. Phil Storey, CEO of XenData, expressed that while the Media Portal is not a Media Asset Management system, it provides a straightforward interface that meets many users' needs effectively.
Available from May 2024, the Media Portal is offered as a software subscription with pricing starting at $980 per annum. XenData stands out in the field of data storage solutions by offering advanced hybrid cloud solutions and highly scalable on-premises active archive systems tailored for video and high-volume large file applications.
