Celebrating World Bear Day: Rescued Bear's Heartwarming Moment Captured

On the occasion of World Bear Day on March 23rd, International Animal Rescue (IAR), in collaboration with the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) in Armenia, shared an uplifting update from their sanctuary in Urtsadzor. A heartwarming photograph captured a brown bear, whimsically named the 'Tyred' bear, waking from hibernation only to find comfort in a tyre as a makeshift pillow. This image not only showcases the bear's adaptability but also symbolizes the resilience of animals rescued from dire situations.

The Urtsadzor sanctuary, managed by IAR and FPWC, is currently home to 29 bears that have been saved from distressing conditions. Many were previously confined in small cages at restaurants and public venues, exploited as attractions for tourists. The appalling conditions prompted the urgent need for rescue and rehabilitation by IAR and FPWC. Despite these efforts, it is estimated that up to 50 bears might still be in need of rescue from similar plights.

World Bear Day: Rescued Bear's Joy

Significant strides have been made towards providing these bears with a life of dignity and freedom. In the sanctuary, they begin to exhibit natural behaviors akin to their wild counterparts, including hibernation during the scarce winter months. In a delightful turn of events, one female bear emerged from her hibernation period followed by two cubs. These cubs have been successfully reintroduced into the wild, marking a victory for the conservation of Armenian bear populations.

Gavin Bruce, CEO of International Animal Rescue, reflected on the significance of World Bear Day: "It serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by bears globally, especially those exploited for entertainment. The 'Tyred' bear's photograph is a testament to the joy these animals can find after enduring suffering and captivity. At IAR, our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate bears, ensuring they spend their years in safety, free from exploitation and suffering."

International Animal Rescue continues its dedicated efforts towards protecting bears and other wildlife through its conservation initiatives. For more information about their work and how to support it, interested parties are encouraged to visit their website.
