WOW Women Of The Year Awards: Celebrating Female Achievements In Automotive

The Women's Worldwide Car of the Year (WWCOTY) has officially opened entries for the prestigious WOW Award, now in its seventh edition. This award is dedicated to celebrating the achievements and contributions of women within the automotive industry or motorsport. The competition is not only a platform for recognition but also aims to inspire other women to pursue their careers in this dynamic field. The deadline for nominations is set for 00:00 on 7 May 2024, New Zealand time.

Eligibility for the WOW Award extends to women who are either actively working in the automotive industry or those who have retired, as well as those who have made significant contributions to motorsport. Nominations can be submitted via email to [email protected], with detailed information about the candidate, including their country of work, merits, and contact details. The subject line of the email should read "WOW".

A panel comprising three non-voting members of the WWCOTY jury will review the nominations to select the top five finalists. The final decision will then be made by a vote among the 76 women jurors from WWCOTY. The announcement of the winner is scheduled for 21 May 2024, promising global recognition for the recipient.

Marta Garcia, CEO of Women's Worldwide Car of the Year, emphasized the significance of the WOW Award in promoting female talent within the automotive sector. She remarked on how such recognition serves as a global benchmark and honors the legacy of Sue Baker, one of the founding judges who passed away in November 2022.

The Women's Worldwide Car of the Year was established in 2009 by New Zealand motoring journalist Sandy Myhre. It stands out as the only car awards group globally to consist exclusively of women motoring journalists. The organization not only focuses on identifying the best cars of the year but also strives to amplify women's voices in the automotive world. This initiative reflects a commitment to gender equality and empowerment within an industry traditionally dominated by men.

WWCOTY's voting criteria mirror those any driver would consider when choosing a car, such as safety, quality, price, design, driving ease, benefits, and environmental impact. Through this approach, WWCOTY aims to contribute significantly to making women’s perspectives heard globally in discussions about mobility and automotive excellence.
