Innovative Glaucoma Treatment IDose TR Now Available At Wilmington Eye

Wilmington Eye has introduced iDose® TR (travoprost intraocular implant) 75 mcg, a newly FDA-approved treatment for managing elevated eye pressure associated with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. This implant provides continuous drug therapy directly inside the eye, offering an alternative to traditional prescription eye drops.

Glaucoma, caused by increased eye pressure, can damage the optic nerve, leading to irreversible vision loss if untreated. While prescription eye drops are commonly used, they often present challenges in administration and can cause side effects. High non-compliance rates further contribute to disease progression.

New Glaucoma Treatment at Wilmington Eye

Dr. Robert van der Vaart, a board-certified ophthalmic surgeon at Wilmington Eye, stated, "With iDose TR, we confront the standard practice of relying on topical drops, which may cause unpleasant side effects and be challenging to properly administer multiple times a day." He added that iDose TR offers a hands-free method to maintain eye pressure control.

Developed by Glaukos, iDose TR releases medication used in traditional eye drops directly into the eye. Clinical studies showed that 80% of patients did not require prescription eye drops 12 months after receiving iDose TR. This implant is particularly beneficial for patients struggling with daily medication adherence or those whose condition remains uncontrolled with topical treatments.

Kathy Erickson, CEO at Wilmington Eye, remarked, "iDose TR represents a significant development in how we can proactively address glaucoma care, and we are proud to be among the first practices to make this therapy available."

The most common side effect of iDose TR is increased eye pressure. Other side effects include iris inflammation, dry eye, partial vision loss, eye pain, redness, and reduced vision clarity.

iDose TR is placed directly inside the eye by an ophthalmologist. It should not be used by individuals with eye infections or suspected infections around the eye, corneal endothelial cell dystrophy, or those who have had corneal or endothelial cell transplants. Allergies to any ingredients in iDose TR also contraindicate its use.

iDose TR (travoprost intracameral implant) is approved for lowering eye pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Patients are encouraged to report side effects to the FDA via www.fda.gov/medwatch or call 1-800-FDA-1088. Glaukos can also be contacted at 1-888-404-1644.
