Westchester County To Enhance Public Transport With GMV's Tech On 325 Buses
Westchester County, home to over one million residents with rail and bus links to New York City, has chosen GMV to upgrade its transit technology platform. This decision followed a competitive procurement process aimed at enhancing service efficiency, operational oversight, and customer experience on Bee Line buses.
GMV, with over 25 years of experience in delivering technology solutions for buses and trains in cities like Los Angeles, Barcelona, Warsaw, and Sydney, is set to bring its expertise to New York. The company will install the GMV Hub on each Bee Line bus. This rugged vehicle computer is specifically designed for transit systems to ensure robust performance and long service life.

The GMV Hub uses an open architecture to control various onboard systems, including GPS, bus operator touchscreen, automatic passenger counters, next stop announcements, and a dedicated sensor for precision tracking in indoor bus depots. Additionally, it functions as a digital video recorder (DVR) to store footage from security cameras on each bus. This multifunction device significantly reduces the project's equipment cost and provides substantial value to the County.
GMV's cloud-native software suite enhances the County's visibility and control over bus operations. Each application focuses on a key transit function and integrates for real-time data exchange. Planning and scheduling software generates optimized routes and schedules to serve customers efficiently while reducing operating costs.
Dispatch software allows control center staff to monitor the entire fleet and take quick action to keep buses moving. Garage management software choreographs bus movements inside depots to ensure vehicles are ready for service. Video management software enables live remote viewing of bus cameras and secure storage and playback of video evidence.
GMV's philosophy of collaboration allows it to deliver top-tier products from third-party partners in a single coordinated solution. A modern technical architecture built on cloud computing, microservices, and application program interfaces (APIs) facilitates this collaboration. GMV’s project management skills ensure successful delivery.
The company's expansion in the United States includes opening a New York office to support Westchester County and other clients on the east coast. Ian Sephton, CEO of GMV’s North American transportation business, emphasized the importance of excellent customer service in project success and long-term client relationships.
Commitment to Sustainability
County Executive George Latimer expressed enthusiasm about the technology upgrade for Westchester’s Bee-Line Bus System. He highlighted that the upgrade would improve customer safety, real-time operations management, and efficiency. The comprehensive upgrade also supports sustainability commitments with zero-emission fleet integrations and enhances the everyday rider's experience by incorporating modern mobility solutions.
