WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca Unites Community With Varied Events

Over the weekend, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca became a hub of community engagement, hosting a series of events that drew a diverse crowd to the scenic Laguna Seca Recreation Area. The facility, renowned for its motorsport events, showcased its versatility by catering to a wide range of interests from cycling and astronomy to automotive enthusiasm.

The weekend activities kicked off on Friday, March 15, with Twilight Cycling. This event offered bicyclists of all ages and skill levels the unique opportunity to ride on the 2.238-mile circuit, a track usually reserved for high-speed racing. April Morris, director of operations at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, expressed her delight in welcoming families to the track. "Whether they complete one lap or many on the hilly layout, they come away with big grins on their faces," she said.

Community Events at Laguna Seca

As night fell on the same day, the Raceway partnered with astronomy clubs and the Monterey Institute for Research in Astronomy to host the inaugural Race to Space event. More than 100 families gathered on Hospitality Island from 7:30 to 10:30 pm to gaze at the stars through professional telescopes. Alicia Busa, communications manager at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, shared her excitement about the turnout and the opportunity for attendees to see celestial bodies up close.

The following morning saw an impressive gathering of over 850 cars for the quarterly Cars & Coffee event in the Hagerty Marketplace. The event featured an array of vehicles from customs and Japanese classics to McLarens, Corvettes, and Tesla Cybertrucks. Coastal Roots Hospitality provided complimentary Captain + Stoker coffee, while Tanimura & Antle offered produce packages. The event also served as a fundraiser, collecting $3,735 in donations for the Blind & Visually Impaired Center of Monterey County.

John Narigi, president of WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, reflected on the significance of these community events. "It is really gratifying to open Laguna Seca Recreation Area for these special community events," he stated. "As stewards of this beautiful County of Monterey-owned park and race track, we want to continue welcoming people to enjoy it whether it is a community event or an exciting nail-biting race."

The 2024 race season at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is set to begin on May 3-5 with the Mission Laguna Seca SpeedTour Trans Am race. This will be followed by the Motul Course de Monterey powered by Hyundai N IMSA race from May 10-12 and Ferrari Racing Days from May 17-19, featuring historic Formula One cars.
