Voice Assistant Users Call For 'Smarter' AI For Better Daily Interactions

Today, Voices, recognized as the premier marketplace for voice-over talents, unveiled its latest findings in the "Talking Technology" report. This comprehensive analysis delves into the utilization of voice assistants by Americans, shedding light on usage patterns, prevalent challenges, and areas ripe for enhancement. The report reveals that a staggering 80% of Americans engage with voice assistants, underscoring the technology's ubiquity in modern digital life. Notably, 74% of these users interact with their voice assistants multiple times each week.

The integration of voice control functions across a broad spectrum of personal technology—from PCs and smartphones to media consoles and vehicle infotainment systems—has facilitated this widespread adoption. However, despite frequent use, 46% of individuals believe they are not leveraging these tools to their full potential, often overlooking numerous available features.

Demand for Smarter Voice AIs

For routine tasks, voice assistants have become indispensable for many. The report highlights that the most common uses include retrieving information (62%), such as weather forecasts or general inquiries, communication (45%), media playback (43%), and managing smart home devices (37%).

Voices' findings underscore the versatility of voice assistants, likening them to a digital Swiss Army knife with 61% of users engaging at least daily. Leading the pack in popularity are Alexa (56%), Siri (49%), and Google Assistant (42%). However, a significant pain point for 60% of users is the assistants' occasional failure to accurately comprehend requests.

The desire for smarter interactions is evident, with 45% of participants indicating they would utilize voice assistants more frequently if they delivered more intelligent responses. Furthermore, 36% yearn for more natural and human-like interactions from these digital aides.

Interestingly, 38% of users believe that incorporating generative AI, such as ChatGPT, could significantly enhance voice assistants' understanding and response capabilities. "People are seeking voice technology that offers a more natural and intuitive user experience," stated Tara Parachuk, Senior Manager of Brand Communications at Voices. She emphasized the importance for companies to focus on developing genuinely intelligent assistants capable of processing natural language effectively.
