New Codeshare Agreement Offers Expanded Flight Options For Regional Australians

Starting today, Virgin Australia and Link Airways have launched codeshare flights, available for booking on Virgin Australia's website. This collaboration marks a significant expansion in travel options for regional Australians, with Virgin Australia reporting robust sales through travel agencies since the partnership's announcement in January. The Bundaberg to Brisbane route has emerged as the most sought-after option among travelers.

For the first time, Virgin Australia customers can enjoy seamless travel to 41 Australian destinations under a single booking. This includes through check-in and baggage transfer, enhancing the travel experience. Additionally, Velocity members stand to gain both Points and Status Credits on these codeshare services. Those holding Velocity Platinum, Gold, and Silver memberships will benefit from bonus Points and an increased baggage allowance on eligible fares.

Expanded Regional Flight Options

The partnership between Virgin Australia and Link Airways introduces 17 new routes, translating to approximately 90 additional flight opportunities weekly across regional Australia. This expansion boosts Virgin Australia’s regional presence by about 45 percent, extending services to cities like Inverell, Wollongong, and Bileola, which previously lacked major airline service.

Alistair Hartley, Virgin Australia's Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the enhanced connectivity this partnership offers to regional Australians. He highlighted the popularity of the Bundaberg to Brisbane route and emphasized the seamless service and loyalty benefits available through the Velocity Frequent Flyer program.

Jeff Boyd, Link Airways' Manager of Network Strategy and Development, also shared his optimism about welcoming new customers through this collaboration. He underscored the improved connectivity for travelers to and from Australian regional towns and cities, facilitated by Virgin Australia's extensive route network.

The codeshare agreement introduces new regional routes including Brisbane to Coffs Harbour, Brisbane to Bundaberg, Brisbane to Biloela, among others. These routes are now bookable directly via Virgin Australia’s website. Link Airways operates a fleet of 14 aircraft, offering complimentary tea, coffee, water, and snacks on their flights. For more details on loyalty benefits with Link Airways or access conditions for the Virgin Australia Lounge, travelers are encouraged to visit the Velocity website.

This partnership not only broadens travel options for regional Australians but also signifies a commitment from both airlines to provide value and choice to their customers. With this collaboration, Virgin Australia and Link Airways are set to enhance the connectivity across Australia’s vast landscape.
