VidaTalk Launches Campaign To Overcome Language Barriers In Healthcare
VidaTalk, a prominent speech-and-language access platform in healthcare, has unveiled its Unsilence Healthcare campaign during The Beryl Institute's ELEVATE PX conference. This initiative introduces two major enhancements to its application: the addition of five new languages and a feature allowing non-English-speaking patients to request an interpreter. These updates expand VidaTalk's language support to a total of 45 languages, aiming to eliminate communication obstacles for patients with Limited English Proficiency (LEP).
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) reports that approximately 25 million individuals in the United States are considered LEP. Communication difficulties within this group have been associated with patient safety incidents. By incorporating an "I want an interpreter" button into its application, VidaTalk seeks to empower LEP patients and promote equitable care. Lance Patak, Founder and CEO of VidaTalk, highlights the significant impact of communication barriers on the healthcare system and the campaign's goal to reveal the true cost of silence in healthcare settings.

The expansion of language support and integration with interpreter services underscores VidaTalk's dedication to inclusivity and fostering meaningful connections within healthcare systems. Originally designed to assist intubated or trached patients in communicating during critical illnesses, VidaTalk has evolved to include talk-to-text, text-to-speech, and text-to-translate functionalities, establishing itself as a comprehensive tool for speech and language access in hospitals.
Lisa Spencer, Chief Experience Officer at VidaTalk, views the application updates as a stride towards creating a global communication platform that enhances patient experiences. These improvements aim to empower patients by enabling them to initiate conversations, thereby building trust and enhancing patient safety and care quality.
VidaTalk envisions a future where every patient facing communication impairments or language barriers can seamlessly connect with healthcare providers. The platform is designed to quickly identify patients' communication needs, offering solutions like arranging for translators or addressing bedside requests. By improving patient satisfaction and fostering trust in the healthcare system, VidaTalk strives to minimize the risk of adverse events stemming from miscommunications.
In April 2024, VidaTalk will participate in The Beryl Institute's ELEVATE PX Global Patient Experience Event. Attendees are invited to visit their booth to learn more about the implications of silence in healthcare and how VidaTalk is addressing communication barriers. Offering an all-encompassing solution for speech and language access, VidaTalk enables effortless communication between patients and providers across various languages and speech challenges. With instant access to communication in 45 languages, VidaTalk assists health systems in reducing miscommunications, improving patient care, and enhancing trust and satisfaction.
